Veterans Day

It is a shame that even though this forum is for people, including me, that no one has even brought up that it is Veterans day. Because most of us, not all, are in a drug induced haze, or detoxing or clean, We forget that a lot of our fellow Americans are out there and have been for 100s of years fighting for us, so we could could be in a country like the USA and get doped up if we want. I am a veteran of the United States Navy and served on an Aircraft Carrier for 4 years, so all of you could sleep peacefully at night and go on being happy on your pills, and not worrying that someone is going to come here and take away your freedom....... But hey, I understand.                      JayDean

I was thinking about this earlier today.... salutes and thank you's to all the veterans out there, and those still serving.  I managed to "win" the lottery draft way back in the 70's and never served..but my hat is off to all who did, those who suffered and still suffer and to those who didn't make it home.

Actually, you're right KRC1959. People that have imbalanced, screwed up personalities to begin with, who are so self centered & taking their 'happy' pills tend to be so self-absorbed that they often do not notice what day it is. Thank you to all Veterans & I am glad to be living in a country where we have the freedom to speak openly like in this forum & not have someone coming to our doors & take us away. I don't mean to be unobservant of what Veterans have done, & what our soldiers are now doing for us. But I myself am one of these self absorbed screwed up people, I guess that's why I'm here on my computer 'cause I don't have the guts to go to an N/A meeting.

oh, and don't forget all the speed and anxiety pills the government is pumping into these guys so they can perform 48 hour shifts, and when they get back with no limbs, disease, post tramatic stress and the Gov.  turns there back on them.  We should be so proud.  It makes me sick and want to cry.   Very touchy subject for me.

I respect each and everyone of these young souls.  I do thank them and then tell them how sorry i am.  I have never had anyone upset with me for that.  I lost someone very close to me......not even 20 years old.  If I could take his place i would.  God Bless you Jacob............<3

I see the other side.  My husband is a 100% diabled vet, and quite honestly, we feel they have taken very good care of him.

It sucks that he is in pain everyday of his life, but they take good care of us as a family.  Medical coverage, monthly disability payments, three of my four children are in college-all being paid for by the government, and even my recent education was completely paid for because of his injury.  

I know there are people out there that have had it rough with the VA, but I for one am eternaly grateful for all they do for my husband and my family.  I know that if he had been hurt in the private sector, the benefits would not be nearly as comprehensive.  I know this because my father had the same sort of injury, and no one was looking out for him.

Sorry naughty, not trying to pick a fight, just have to give a different perspective on the issue.

I do appreciate what the VA does for our soldiers.  And I appreciate what our soldiers do for us everyday!

Hun, no apologies needed on either end.  I believe you are a genuine person as well as I am.  we do have mutual respect here.  we are going thru tough times right now and its bad enough debating politics and religion when we are "normal"  congrats on day 3  that was one of my worst days........after 4 it seems to get a little better.  Let's keep our focus  on our health and wellness and our blood pressure down.  I love lobster too.  Maybe someday when we have a year or so under out belts.......we can throw down over some lobster and a beer.........lol.  take care of yourself hun.

I would think that alot of veterans frequent this board.  I served 15 years in the US Army and would do it again in a heartbeat.  Don't forget that these soldiers know exactly what they are getting themselves into.  Combat is a scary thing and soldiers are trained from the start on how to survive.  It's sad and no one likes to think about what can happen.  In today's military not a single soldier has been drafted.  We have an all volunteer force, which is part of why our military is so strong.  As far as it being BRAINWASHING, I disagree.  It's COURAGE.  God bless each and every soldier who serves now or who has ever served.

my boyfriend's best friend was in Iraq.  Luckily, he's home safe...but...he thought he was there FOR A PURPOSE.  he was all for the CAUSE when there WAS NOT a CAUSE.  they teach soldiers to believe in whatever they want them to believe in.

I am also a Vietnam veteran who came back to the states a Heroin addict like thousands of others did......We were all kept for 6 months in a drug detox and rehab before allowed to go home......

In 1970 President Nixon because of the Heroin explosion with all the soldiers made them take a drug test and test negative before they could come home from Vietnam.......

On my license plate is says Vietnam veteran and i am proud of it but another right people have living in the US is that they are not obligated to thank all the veterans for there military time because all of us enlisted by our own choice none of us here were drafted.....I just missed the draft when I was in highschool I am remember my senior year was the last day of the draft my number was 535

Deal with getting better and not being mad at people for not thanking you for your military time.....

I think everyone has a valid point in this.My foster father who had a VERY acctive role in raising me served in Vietnam.He then got out and started working as a sherriff.He was also in the army reserves.My dad has a wife and five children.One day last March we get a call that turns our whole family upsidedown.He was being deployed to iraq in 2 weeks.2 WEEKS!!!My dad is getting up there in years and was very setteled in is job and family.He left us March the 30th.None of us knew if we would EVER see him again.His kids are 17,15,13,11, and 9.Thats not including me.I do think taht this whole war sistuation is bullcrap,but you cant be mad at the solders.It is not there fault.Can you only imangaine if that war was here???My God thank you for all of those brave,selfless heros who are over there everyday.No, it was not my first prority to post happy veterans day here this morning.It was my priority to call my foster mom and my little brothers and sisters whom stayed out of school to honor daddy and tell them how much I loved them.Now with all of that said I do agree with what was said about our president.It is easy for him to give the orders for more people to go but if he were given the order to go would he be able to?Then he might think second thought.Happy veterans day to all the heros who served to protect all of us......Jay Dean how is you detox doing? PS my 20 year old couison,who is in kowait, called last week too tell us that his friend that he met over there was 50 yards away from him when he got his head blown off in some kind of attack.His friend was turning 19 in three weeks!That flag that they give his mom is not going to make her feel better!!!
