Congratulations on posting. You've made your first positive step. If you have the desire to quit, and the willingness to take certain steps, people on this site who've tapered down and then stopped can and will share what they did and how well it worked. 10 a day is a manageable dose to kick but you'll need to taper to a lower dose first. You don't need to do this alone.
I stopped cold turkey, but my dosage was lower than yours. Start today by getting by with just one less dose. It's not much but it's a positive move. I'm sure more members who've gotten off of higher amounts will follow my post and you'll be on your way.
Stay with us!
Best wishes.
I know how you feel been there and done it. Alot of times we do not realizw why we take this medecine but the truth is that this medicine numbs you from reality and it takes the depression and axciety away. So when reality hits your adicted. All I can tell you is do not stop cold turkey, you can hurt your body. try to take less and less, start every week and one pill less. try gingoloba pills of the counter they are natural vitamins that will help you gain energy, advil is also good. Just remember patient's and prayer is important. Also please do not expect for the advil or gingaloba to work like the vicodin, that is not going to happen but if you minimize the pain pills slowly you will not even feel the withrawal. You can do it, I am like the most weakest person in the world but I did it. Say a prayer and you will see how GOD works. Good luck friend.

Hi Again kitkat,
If you do plan to taper down to a manageable level that you can then get off of, get with other addicts that have had experience doing the exact same thing. Find people on here, going to NA meetings, seeking support any way you can is where it's all at. It will strengthen your resolve to keep on keeping on. You CAN do this. Tapering is a slower detox process, but much less painful. Sometimes a little pain is necessary, but suffering is optional. The end result will be freedom.
This isn't an NA site you're on, but I want to mention that go to NA for support. I just got home from a meeting in fact. NAs actually free. You can't beat that fee compared to doctors. I had to completely surrender my addiction. I'm powerless over the stuff. Surrender means I don't have to fight anymore. I decided to accept life as it is, and became willing to do anything it takes to get clean. Now I don't have to use anymore.
