Suboxone Advice

I went to my psychiatrist today and spilled my guts about my 10-12 percocet a day addiction. He knows its my third time around and I told him that I cant quit on my own. He gave me the name of a doc that does outpatient suboxone treatment(I cant afford another inpatient)...any advice would be much appreciated!

after 3 relapses it may be ur option to take advantage of...who knows....my pain mgt doctor prescribes it..close friend as well...people can get down to 2 mg without alot of sweat...then the going gets tough on sub with many of his patients and they get stuck...just be safe and take as small a dose as u can and stay comfy and get off quickly...sub is a strong narcotic that is frying ur receptors in the process...so try hard to keep it short and sweet...and successful

sub can be a life saving decision....you have to be dedicated to the recovery tho otherwise it wont work, youll end up with another addiction entirely, and the shorter youre on it the better and one thing that is often misconstrude is that the lower the dose the more of an opiate effect it will have. buprenorphine(suboxone) has a celing effect on its effects and the higher the dose the more antagonists effects come out. Which would be withdrawal syndrome all over again. A recommended dose is between 8 and 16 mgs. You will get the most benefits from this dose and like I stated before the shorter time youre on sub the less hard it will be to get off of it. when starting it if youa re in withdrawals or at least waited around 16 hours after your last dose of your DOC you will feel completely better and get a mild euphoric high, albeit everyone is diferent and reacts differently to drugs, it will help entirely with teh cravigns and make you feel soo much better. I wish you the best of luck and stay strong, and stick to a treatment plan, counseling is a huge part in staying clean...later

it helped me alot.

short term is great for detox.  longer term for maintenance (chronic relapsers.)

i personally have nothing but good things to say about it.  it took me out of a life of over a year chasing pills.. trying to stay on a regular dose for chronic pain, but to no avail.  eventually, and for quite awhile, i flat out abused.  and couldn't get it under control.

so for me, personally, it really, really helped.

i am currently on 4 mg. and about to go to 2, then hopefully taper to none.

it's not a "miracle drug" - you still have work to do - but again, for me personally, it pretty much saved my life. it's great you are seeing a psychiatrist now too - to get to any root causes that may be adding to your need to "escape."  if that is part of the equation... it was for me.

good luck hun..

warmly,
mj

good luck...remember this is something u have to want deep deep down...sub can help u bypass the wds but it will not keep u from relapsing later on...only u can do that....aftercare and determination will keep u clean....getting clean is such a small part in the scheme of things...staying clean is up to u in the long run...it can be a mental battle for a long time...but worht fighting for...when starting the sub people should ask themselves...is it being sick for a week or so that i am scared of?   if that is it u should take a double take or get off the sub very quickly...if it is long term changes u need to make in ur life then longer term sub could help but remembering that this a very strong narcotic...0.3 mg  is equal to 10 mg of morphine and getting off of it later will be another issue ...worth it if u can make those changes and taper down..tapering down from this drug is by no  means easier than ur doc tho...so be sure u have ur long/short term goals in mind...and keep moving forward

Yes, it's a good idea if nothing else works. I started on suboxone in may and took my last pill a week ago. Yes, I've had some WDs (mainly fatigue, though today I got a bit sicker, with diarrhea, etc). Still, it's a successful transition from vicodin. I would recommend it. But remember that it is very powerful and you don't need much.

I am no expert but if you choose this route. Make sure you get off of it quickly. There are many who have posted here that have had difficulty getting off of it if they used for a while.
