When will I start to feel better? Fatigue? Sleep?

I am 5 days off oxys. I've been taking between 5-30mg per day for probably the last 5 years or so. On the one hand I'm so proud of myself for getting off this crap but on the other hand I just feel like crap. Fatigue all day and can't sleep at night. Think I got about 2 hours of sleep last night. I feel so tired but I can't sleep. At night I get super anxious and can't seem to lie still. Super obsessive thoughts about more using too. I could go fill a script for more but so want a different life with out this drug in it. When will I be able to sleep? When will this fatigue get better? Any suggestions on OTC things that may help? Thank You!

Hi  congrats on making it to day 6  your off to a great start...you need to start to put some kind of aftercare in place  it is a critical step  I highly recamend N/A long ofter the pills stop your still left with the addict in your head  the obsessions the compulsions and resentments just to name a few  N/A is a simple 12 step progam that will give you some plase to share where the people there will understand what your going threw it will also help you put your disease in remition and then recovery is possible  in time you will loose the desire to use...Google N/A meetings in your area.......Gnarly

Thank you kind people for your responses. Here I am on the morning of day 6. I may have slept a little better last night, still feel tired and fatigued as I sit here and type this. I haven't filled that script. It is at Walgreens so I can't destroy it but the more days go by then it will be expired so I can't fill it.

This damn drug just brings out the worst in me. Dishonesty, lies, lies, lies.  Sometimes I think that is who I truly am and I guess that is who I truly am when that drug is running my life. I so don't want to be that person.  I have two teenagers and know that they haven't had the whole ME, just the numbed out me who is only half there. Same thing goes for my marriage and my job. I so don't want that to be who I really am. I know there is so much more of me.  Yes I am an addict. Addict through and through. This is the only life I have and I don't want to live it like this anymore.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on Day 5!!!  That is something to be proud of!!!  You need to be patient with yourself now....I know you hate to hear it but it will take time to feel better!  The #1 culprits are sleep and energy!  They are the last to come back!  It can be so frustrating but make a plan for your sleepless nights....get a bunch of movies...or watch You Tube...or read the stories on here...crossword puzzles...anything that will keep your mind occupied!  It makes it worse to try and fight it cause then the anxiety kicks in and our brains start to tell us it will be OK to take just one more pill....that never works!  It just leads to more than one!!!  Sleep and energy really will come back though!  It took me about a month to start to feel a bit more energetic...I was getting up and going to work until then but was just exhausted all the time.  But it DOES get better!!!  You can try the above mentioned melatonin and Valerian root and see if it helps with your sleep.  It does really work well for some people!!  Others have used OTC sleep aids and it has worked for them also!  I didnt have much trouble with the sleeping after the first few days so Im not a big help with that one but Im sure others will be commenting and giving you some great advice on it!!
Keep on posting to let us know how you are getting on!!!

Hey imagine!! Excellent job on your 5 days. Let me assure you all of your symptoms are completely normal: this is exactly where you should be. Day 5 is the eye of the detox storm. You are in the worst of it.

You need to CANCEL that script asap. If you don't, your 5 year abuse will become 10 or 20 or worse. You didn't write the word "addict", but that is implied. You'll probably feel sh!tty for another couple of days than you'll notice each symptom starts to change a bit/improve inch by inch. This is the easy part, the detox. STAYING clean is the work. Have you put any thought into aftercare yet? Vital to staying clean.

Don't use any OTC sleep aids, they'll make you more jittery. Get either melatonin or valerian root and that may do a little. But, honestly, insomnia is the #1 symptom and you'll be better off just expecting NOT to sleep much for a while. It will come back, I promise you, just not right now. Remember: you've numbed yourself for 5 years, you're not gonna be fine in 5 days. Same w/ energy. Force yourself to go out into the sun. Walk down the block if that's all you can do. You'll get your natural endorphins going which are gone from using years of opiates.

Stay close to this site and keep posting;)
