When my mother was alive she was a full blown alcoholic and often had to detox herself at home. She went through almost exactly what you're describing. It was always bad in the beginning with the w/d's then they would subside only to come back on her pretty bad a few weeks later! The doctors finally put her on an anti anxiety med but you have to be careful with those because they're highly addictive. The better solution honestly would be to go the natural route.

I know how frustrated you're because I went through this so many times with my mother and I wish I could give you some solid answers but honestly I think from experience it's anxiety.

Congradulations on quitting now!! I only wish my mother could've remained sober and she would probably still be with us today. Best of luck to you and I'm proud of you for conquering this demon, my demon was pills!

Harry, I would highly recommend getting the book Seven Weeks to Sobriety. It is aimed at the alcoholic and is full of insight and even vitamin and supplement formulas that address many of your issues. Do a search on Google for it and their website.
( healthrecoverry *******) I believe. After reading this book, I had a much better understanding about how alcohol changes your body's chemistry etc.. Incidentally, Their center has a very high success rate for recovery. It is mainly due to their use of vitamins, supplements and amino acids.

I am so sorry for your problem.  Personally I don't know anything about alcohol abuse.  Even though I LOVE/LOVED pills, I have NEVER had a drink of liqour.  People think it is so funny that I am 41 years old and never had any alcohol or been in a bar.  I guess that is good on my part because of my addictive personality, I have no doubt I would get hooked on it.

I can't offer any information, just support and prayers.  If you need anyone to talk to I am here.

Hugs
Susan

I experienced something similar after quitting codeine. I experienced withdrawals for around 7 days but then I started feeling fine. But again 4 or 5 weeks later, I started experiencing the same things you are. And my doctor said I was suffering from depression. And it does sound like you are getting anxiety attacks.

I agree as well it sounds like panic attacks which are common as I have had them as well. I guess it depends on how long you have been drinking and how much to determine the time to detox. I would imagine a few eeks I quit a long time ago drinking that is but recently gave in for a week and a half of a heavy duty relapse everysecond I wasnt passed out for my hour breaks I would be poring it down my throat as dast as I could to avoid hangovers and to keep using dope like I wanted. I went through a mix of withdrawals so I can say I recoginzed the difference between some of em and dixxy light headed is most definitely alcohol detox. I can say as well that time not drinking is by no way a stand still the drinking progesses with or without alcohol.... Mike

Hi sorry to read you are having such a hard time so long after stopping drinking I agree with the post above it sounds like anxiety. I quit drinking last year July 4 07 I know I drank to reduce stress if I was happy sad or bored I used it as a crutch for every emotion if you find you drank for any of these reasons then the way you were dealing with the emotions was by numbing them out they were still there just numb now you are feeling the full scope of the feeling. Try to think or write down what you are feeling or whom you talked to or even what you did and see if this may have been a time when you would have had a drink without the drink you may be rediscovering the reason why you started to drink heavy in the first place.. Now you will be in a better position to learn how to deal with these emotions without numbing them. Once you learn what the cause of the anxiety is it will be easier to conquer it...
I wish you well on your journey through self discovery as it is a process. One that is well worth the work.  Lesa

IMO i think it is panic attacks....Are you depressed??  if not i would not get on a anti-depressent...But maybe ask your doctor if you may be having axiety....
It is odd that this started that late after quitting..
Congrats on quitting....
