Just asked this site to post on top of every page a taper & CT advise

This is the message i just sent to contact us this site .  What do you think ?

Hello , First off i want to thank you for your addiction substance abuse site . Saved my life .

So many people find the site with the same story looking for help . These people are Sick on drugs hate life and are asking the same questions . Every day more people ask How do i QUIT . Can it be done ?

I would like to see always at the top of the page every day a post done by the people who have the info & advise on how to Quit . There are lots of these people who give there time to others in need on this site every day .
These people know  how to get you through safe home detox

The post should read  How to Taper or Cold Turkey Quit .
If you approve this i can get a list of what needs posting done by the people that help others on your site . Sure would be easyier , 1 post instead of 50 of the same questions ever day .
               Thanks   Ron    Norco1947

Hi Free , Your cutting fast , And a cut of  half your dose sounds like a big cut to me . But if you can take it may be  OK  for you . For me the adjustment took about 5+ days each time i lowered my dose 25% . I think each person may be a little different so ajust to your comfort . Great that it's a lower dose think you may do good thru your detox . Go for it when your ready , Keep posting . ... Ron

Well I have successfully weaned my self down to 1 and a halve 7.5 hydro in the past 4 weeks. I have enough to go to a halve for three days I have been reducing every 3 days by a halve  been a little up and down but most certainly a lot easier than ct. I am hoping when I am finished that it won't be to bad. Thank you Ron for your support you have been MAJOR inspiration to me.

Hi Free ,  I was on (10 per day )  10mg Norco for needed pain relief , just could not stop after surgery eased my pain .
I am in good shape for my age but at 65 trying to go CT off 100mg a day was to tuff on me after going 3 days crying  i gave up . Bloodpressure was sky high . That day i went on this site and learned more about tapering .
Thank God these people helped me i was sick , lost , hateing my life . Wife starting to complain .
Well i started by hearing that it would take a few days for my body to adjust to each lowering of my dose say 5-7 days so i tried to cut by 25% per week .Found it tuff but do able , For me  easyer then CT i was in a bit of discomfort not easy but it was do able for me.
Went a little over 3 weeks weaning ,maybe a bit to fast but i wanted off this Crap  Was so scared of jumping it took a girls message that she ran out of norco tapering pills and jumped . That did it i said if a girl can do it so can i. ( true story )
Trust me on this The fear is worse to live with then the W/D itself 100 hours of W/D & it should start to feel like your WINNING this FIGHT .
On my Day #10 & think i had it easy this far , compaired to my CT try. feeling so much better , wanting , doing things again , feeling good . even hungry again .
Read the Thomas recipe below botton of the page . Think it helps .
I drank a ton of Ensure when i just could not make my self eat . I like it ice cold i think it made my tummy feel better .
Good luck free you can do this for yourself . ... Ron

Be careful not to become TOO confident and TOO complacent, that's how people fall on their face, and not even realize what happened.  You're JUST coming off the Norco.  A week clean means you still may have some of the drug in your system...meaning...be careful, this is all fresh, and new.  It's great to want to give back, but I've seen people (on various forums) get very caught up in that, when THEIR issue hasn't been resolved yet, and they realize, oh CRAP!  What was I DOING?  I was in NO place to be be advising people when I didn't know what *I* was even doing yet!

People for sure will want to hear your experiences and opinions, however, it's a bit premature to be trying to figure out the most efficient way to run the forum.  Most of the regular have been here for YEARS, through MANY changes, format changes, rule changes, you name it.  Like everyone said, it's working.  People are getting help AND aupport, without just having a bunch of links thrown at them, or a standard copy/paste reply which is cold and impersonal.

You could always offer a brief personal message, and then point the people in the right direction, tell them to browse the forum, etc.  For a lot of people, navigating the site is very difficult at first, they have NO clue what a health page is, or where to find it.  Add to that most people are in 100% crisis mode.

Just post from your heart, but again, very wise advice to continue concentrating PRIMARILY on YOU.  You can ease into the role of advice giver after you've spent some time on YOU.

'Just my 2.5 cents.

TODAY is the day you can help others. You've had years of experience - share it. You don't know who's lurking out there right now, reading these posts. Something you offer may make a connection.
And be careful. The addiction never stops - never let's up. The cravings don't go away - they may hide, hole up somewhere in our heads, but they don't leave. We ALL crave our DOC.  We can't control it; we just put things in place to help us manage it, every day. The longer you're clean, the easier it is to manage, but, the voice will always be there.

Being new here I missed the importence of  the personal part of being helped , People are reaching out for help and i understand the need to talk to a human .
It just seems that every one seeking help ask the same questions . Take the Thomas recipe people are told about it every post . read the the recipe at the bottom of the page it's posted .

And to IBKLEAN  i am takeing care of myself by reading and learning right here . I will not forget , I read most of the daily post and see whats happened to others .
I would like to someday be able to repay the help i have received here .
I have never partyed with Norco , I got stuck thru needed pain relief .
Maybe i am wrong but relapes  happen to people who crave the DOC.
I have learned from this site what happens with just 1 pill. I have no craveings even thru W/D . Had no problems tossing my left over pills .
well maybe i did worried about all the stoned fish .   Ron

I find myself writing, over and over, what I believe is the best approach to tapering or CT. And all the others on the forum, yourself included, write what they feel is the best approach, all based on personal experience.
We agree on some things, disagree on others. And the way the information and support is presented is different - I'm fairly straight forward, others take time to try and calm and soothe.  And it works. We need to communicate with the individual - often seeing that someone is responding at two in the morning makes a difference. And by the way, I never get tired of writing the same thing over and over. As long as it helps.

Your idea has merit. I see the benefits for sure......kind of stream-line the process....If it were only a physical disease it would work..

The risk I see is that someone on very high amounts or coming off substances that really should't be done at home may take it as medical advice...heaven forbid something bad should happen....

I know it sounds like the same questions are asked,,,,the same answers are given over and over...and,,,,you're right,,,.

The success rate is low for us addict types..,,,relapse is common. Hope you agree the personal interaction is crucial...

For some , just telling their story is difficult...they may have held that secret for years and jsut by spilling it...  it was a tremendous step,,,,,,,i know i was misty when I entered my first post,,,,it was the first time I saw in "print" how hopeless my situation was getting,,,,,

aaaannnnnnywaaaaayyyyyyyy  .....

Great idea,,,without a doubt....i just hope the human part of this sites never fades,,,,,its where a lot of the magic happens,,,,,it did for me...

Thanks for posting the idea,,,,,

Like IBKleen said....they wouldn't read it anyway.   People are forever posting on threads that are years old, and if you tell them to start a new topic for their question, they usually won't do it, and many people come here and post one time and never come back.   You kind of have to be here when someone posts and answer.   Fortunately, almost any time of the day or night, someone will read a question and answer.

And Norco, please do not take this personal. I am on your side but with a week clean you need to worry about YOU. What are YOU doing to prevent a relapse? Get selfish and take care of you for now.

Your suggestion is great but it just doesn't fit the addict who comes here desperate and often as a last resort. Many of the members here state that their addiction is a secret and they want someone to talk with. When a bunch of people respond it makes them feel good that someone understands. they can look detox and taper plans through a google search but having that special touch just for them is important. I cannot tell how important my first response was on this site. I remember the members name so well even though he hasn't been here in five years. Know what I am saying?

Hang in there and stick around.

Quite a few of these topics are covered in the Health Pages but people need to be told to look there. It's difficult to navigate this place as a new member, I remember.    MH will never allow taper plans or advice. I've beat that drum to death. LOL

I see what you're getting at, though. The posts get redundant so it would be good to have some standard advice readily available. I guess MH just relies on members to provide that info. And folks like a comment that's just for them, personally.

This site was started 18 years ago. For real do you think this hasn't be done? Believe me, it has.

And secondly, if they were to do this it would take away from the human element. Already we are on the internet and half the time I don't know if I am talking to a 40 year old bank teller in Florida or a 16 year old boy in Mongolia. So we need to keep it as human and individual as possible.

And lastly, they won't read it anyway. Been there done that. It won't work.

The same advise you people give to everyone.
first see your DR.
you give great advise on detox
some can CT others need to learn how to wean
i know every drug and daily dose is different but the advise is always the same some drugs and high doses need to taper
give a Dr. approved taper plan .
some drugs or lower doses can CT . tell people about how long the discomfort will last . Gives hope when its needed the most .
people are scared hopeless hate them self when they come looking for help . They have no idea it can even be done or how to start .
if they don't get some help here where are they to go.

Helped  me so much when i posted for the help i got lot's of positive hopeful replys & think you guys save my life . You to Weaver were the difference of me quiting or giveing up because i thought this would kill me & never end . Was so fearful & Scared and you people got me thru it with you posts .
Someone a lot smarter then me should make a list of advice ... Ron

That's a difficult question. First, everyone is in a unique situation. Then there are so many different opinion. Also, there's something special about having a real person to talk to when you need it. And finally, helping other addicts is how addicts stay clean. I think you have a big heart, and are trying to help, and that's awesome. I wish I knew what to say that would fit your request and would make getting and staying clean easier for everyone. I'll give it some more thought.
