day 13,still can't sleep

It's almost 3:30 in the morning and I went to bed at 10pm. What the heck is going on? I slept better from 5-8 days clean then I have been the last few nights. I'm on day 13(early morning) and just ate a carb-loaded meal, hoping it will get me back to sleep soon. Is this something else, or could it still be w/d?

Good to hear you are getting a bit more sleep at least.

I had the best nights sleep so far last night as well but unluckily then woke up with a headache nearly as bad as on day 3, very nasty. Last few days have been hard to be honest but hopefully will turn another corner soon.

i am on day 54 and last night was my first real good sleep.  that may not be too encouraging but i tell you it WILL get better.  i was on pills for 7 years though, so i knew it would take my body a long time to heal, give yourself time.
i too had to stop the tyrosine, made me anxious, maybe i was taking too much?  the anxiety was difficult to deal with but that also subsides.....over time, everything is over time!  stay busy, stay POSITIVE, be kind to your body and mind.  you CAN do this!

Today is 15 and I woke up at 3 again, but was able to go back to sleep fairly quickly. I have had a lot of anxiety during the day, without feeling heavy bouts of fatigued. I have cut down(almost off) of the Tyrosine. I think that may have something to do with the anxiety. At first, I needed the extra energy due to fatigue, but lately it's been a more anxiety than fatigue with weakness riddled in at the same time, so I'm trying to level it out, you know? Thank you everyone for your support.

Thank you sooo much for your replies! I have an array of supplements, otc's, and meds to try(i actually have a Rx for Phenergan). I wouldn't have thought. Anyway, last night was not as bad, for I slept until 6am, finally. Those early morning hours were killing me! Today is Day 13(i almost can't believe it) and I don't feel that "off" today, so good luck to everyone and thank you again.

lizerd, did you call in? I know it's harder the first few days if they're around and you have to turn them down. 5 days shoud put a good dent in your recovery, just so you have enough "strength". Best wishes. Wen

I tried the valarian root but I don't feel it did anything for me when I first got off ultram.  I am hoping I don't need anything this time.  I am just starting off again. I am thinking about calling in tomorrow night to work becuase i can get narcs there and have already put myself at risk of loosing my career.  I will have 5 days off if I do to go through withdrawal before I have to go back and then at that point its all will power and I am just going to have to say no.

may have some anxiety that has kicked in...do u feel anxious/like u drank too much coffe/or do u feel tired and just cant sleep?...reason i ask is there r lots of supps ovet the counter/otc/that help sleep...valerian root helped me and in small doses helps anxiety..melatonin helps many sleep///not good to take during the day for anxiety for most as it has a hangover effect for some...benadryl which is the base of most otc sleep meds also helps...sleep is important to recovery..u can become weak if u do not get sleep/especially if ur days are full

safe meds ur dr can RX aare phnergan/25 - 50 mgs for sleep and 1/4 of a 25 mg pill for anxiety/no habit forming and most drs will call it in for tummy problems...try to avoid benzos but some do use small doses for a week or 2/very addicting tho and risky for an addict...elavil in small doses can help sleep/in larger doses (over 10 mgs) it can make u drowsy the next day is u r not used to it...neurontin also helps sleep if u r not accustomed to it..the sleepy side effect goes away in a few months,,,,lunesta and ambien are also safer choices than benzos but can be abused....muscle relaxers are not habit forming either excluding soma///zanaflex is good one for sleep as is flexeril but drogginess can occur so take it early in the eve if u have to get up early

also/cold temperatures in ur house can help as it slows the metabolism..even a fan can help if u r in an area where ac is not the norm..if u toss and turn/get up and do sumpin then try sleeping again..laying in bed being miserable can make an association in ur brain with being in ur bed and restlessness/know it sounds funny but the brain  can do weird things....read or do sumpin relaxing a few hrs before bedtime..exercise is great as well for sleep...but not in the evening hours right before bed for most unless it is gentle yoga/meditation

aske ur dr for sumpin mentioned above if u try all the otc stuff and nuttin works..again/sleep is important to recovery

My hubby's 3 weeks clean from methadone and still not sleeping. He hasn't slept for years it seems! He takes non-benzo sleeping tablets but not even they're working. He's going back to the doc for some melatonin this week. It must be so annoying. My heart goes out to ya. 13 days is a huge achievement...well done and keep up the good work!:o)

sleep for me was the worst part of wds and the last to subside....some nights i slept but most nights it was toss and turn....it took about 8 weeks to level out with sleeping well.  so many people have this problem for a bit...hang in there...sleep will come...maria

I don't understand ... the vaunted "Thomas Recipe" recommends short-term benzo use.

Admittedly, they're virtually useless in the early w/d's, but there's a contradiction here, no?

Weney,

Have you tried Valerian Root yet? (walgreens) it will help you sleep at nite, you can also look into kava kave and passion flower for anxiety (health food store) GNC also dont drink caffine after 2pm and dont work out past 4 or 5 pm these things will keep you up at nite, try to relax, hot baths and dont take stress to bed with you. try talking it out instead of taking to bed or writing it down on a tablet so you dont think about it.

hope this helps! jules

STAY AWAY from the benzos that's not the answer and possibly could cause a bigger problem in your life .Most likely if you were to take benzos to sleep for a week then your body will want them to go to sleep you will be right back were you are now.

Exercise really helps sooo much no caffeine I took magnesium /calcium  vit b  sublingual melatonin (5hpt as long as you are not on antidepressants) the caffeine was the worst for me LOL
It really did help the first 4 nights I did not sleep at all but then after that day it got better very day by two weeks I was sleeping just fine .It will get better

It's not a popular bit of advice, but a week-long taper on Valium might work, now that you're over the really nasty bits ... also, melatonin just before lights out helps a lot of people.

Just be careful about getting messed up on benzo's -- another can of worms, but short-term relief, at least.

It is all a bit scary but I had symptoms from that list when I tried to quit before, or even when I tried to cut down. I thought I'd permanantly damaged my mind and it was that more than anything else that caused me to relapse in the past.

I think the things to take from that article are that you will gradually sleep longer and better, if you do get some of the other stuff its not going to be permanant, they are a normal part of the withdrawal process, which will hit less and less often over time with reducing severity. Forwarned is forearmed is the expression I believe.

One thing though, I'm probably externalising my own experiences rather than actually giving good advice, so don't be too alarmed please!

I read up on PAWS. It seems a little scary. Especially for somebody who has to be "on their game" all the time at work. I know the pills made critical thinking impossible, but even with quitting, there may not be a "cure"? I'm just going to stay positive and keep focusing on the beneficial outcomes. Reading the threads and posts, so far, most always show happiness as the usual outcome. Also, I do really mean it this time, so for me, there's no other choice. I am so sick of being sick and tired. Sorry for the negativity and thank you for your positivity, too.

Thanks :)

A hell of a lot better than last week, slightly deranged from lack of sleep and my brain hopefully trying to reset itself but nothing that can't be survived. I swear I'm never going to put myself through that again!

I think we can all succeed if we really mean it, which I do this time.

Good luck with your fight too.

Sounds like PAWS to me, I found the link about that in the bottom right corner very informative about my current state of play at least (day 11 into WD from 10 years of codeine abuse).

Others may have more informed advice however.
