how do you know it is an addiction

I take 10-20 T3's every day, plus I take Ibuprophen as many as the T3's, and on the weekends to help with sleep etc, I take 3-5 oxy's and some llittle yellow house things I take about 5 of the.  My husband makes cracks about how many I take, and sometimes gets mad, so I started to hide them, and get stuff from others, and from different doctors, and he gets some prescriptions as well, if I run out and cannot get any I just use otc drugs of the same med, but take more to make up for lack of dosage.

I do feel like I am addicted, I don't freak out or anything if I can't have them.  I hold a job and run a household.  I have children and a life, I just tend to take a little more medications then most.  I am overwieght and therefore I feel like the dosages are mainly meant for average size people...  I do not drink alcohol or anything, so just a bit of prescriptions instead.  I don't take drugs like, speed or pot, or meth or whatever.

So how do you know when it goes from being just whatever to being an addict.  I don't want to cross that line...

I am not taking anything right now it been about 16 hours.  It is not by choice however it is due to everything been taking away and hidden or dumped.  My friend not my family!
I feel really sick and hot and cold not sure if that is normal but so far no real vomiting that might be better!  I have to admit if I could I would take something but I literally am given only the stomache pills that are prescribed for heartburn etc.  I am also yawning all the time is that normal?
If anyone has some incite as to what may happen or how long this could take!  It is really hard being at work and trying to act normal when I feel like I am dying!
Thanks:)

Your right worried, I do think I have a problem, I just am not sure it means I am addicted.  I have a problem with taking too much prescriptions, and my doctor prescribes them and without them I am a mess so far.  I do think that there are times when I don't take anything, except the odd tylenol or advil from the corner store.  Or just something to help me sleep.  I am going to do that 24 or even 48 hours with nothing, not even a otc pill, and see what happens.  I will post it when I do it, and I am sure it will be fine.  I am so not the rue the roost kind of girl, if you met me in person you would not expect what you read on here.  I am a different person on the outside then the inside.  I may be more of an outspoken person on here, but at home, and in my life, I am the one that sits quietly and waits for someone to speak to me, or I wait for the offer (as my mother always told us, it is rude to ask and presume), and I never talk back to my husband or my parents.  I am not sure why he brings the prescriptions, I think he does it to make me happy, or keep me up, and who I am.  I was already taking a lot of stuff when we met, he just happens to be able to get better pain killers then me so I was not passing the blame to him.  I am the one who takes the pills.

24 hours without is a great start!  but flusing all u own in ur home and then cutting of any outside supply//including otc codeine would be a huge 2nd step

u have come alot farther than u think u have///altho u still have the spider web to unweave that has wove a nice lil nest thru ur brain///u know u have a problem//at least i think u do...comment on hubby bringing home new scrips for u///is not a positive thing as blame is a numkber one thing with addicts....but deep down i bet he knows u have a problem..perhapos u have a strong personality like most addicts and u rue the roost//ok and very cool//but taking charge of ur own mind can be tough...even for the strongest individual..these puppies will beat u hands down if u do not fight

keep us posted

Yeah I noticed that too about the restless leg thing.  I get that sometimes but I have an underlying injury to my leg.  I took 2 oxy's 2 t3's 2 flexeral and 2 gravol and 2 ibuprophens tonight because my husband came home with new filled prescriptions, so I guess I will have to wait to try that experiment that worried878 was talking about.  I know that sometimes this makes me feel a little high, but not really.  I had a very bad day, well actually it was a bad week.

I will post later when I am going to try only otc, and no prescription or, even 24 hours, with none.

Good night -

I am new to this stuff ; like many others. I have been takin g 1 10/500 oxycodone every night for several years. Some times I forget to take it but not long after I fall asleep I get horrible restless leg. I started taking the pills for restless leg butI cannot go a single day  (or night) without the pill or I do not sleep.
After reading this forum I feel I may be actually feeding an addiction instead of treating a condition. From all I've read, restless leg is a symptom of withdrawal from the very drug I have used for restless leg. Five days ago my doctor (new) gave me tramadol 50mg to use for restless leg ao I taken it a bedtime and no oxycodone.Frankly, I didn't think 1 pill a day could cause addiction but maybe I was wrong. Any thoughts. In a way I hope it is the drug. My restless leg is so bad and every night. If I could suffer through WD for some period of time and be free of restless leg I would gladly do it. Should I quit the tramadol and see what happens? Any elp would be so appreciated. Thanks

Well I do not think I have actually stopped taking them, for any length of time, if I cannot get a prescription, then I will get similar otc meds.  Like t1's, I just take 2-3 times more of them to make up for the lack of dose.  I will get extra strength motrin for ibuprophen until I can get some more.  I get most of the oxy's from my husband, since he gets a regular perscription for them, and the little yellow house things (are muscle relaxers), if I can't get those I take some dramamine, or motion sickness pills.  I can always substitute for other things.  It just takes more of the subs then the real stuff.  My hubby seems to think it is funny how much I can take, nothing seems to rattle me.  When I was a kid I attempted suicide by taking a whole lotta pills and I almost succeeded but didn't and I learned that really you can take a whole lotta pills and survive it.  So I just take them.

I really don't think I would want to attempt 30-90 days without taking anything, but I can go without taking the prescriptions, however, (just keeping this honest) I will take otc meds during that time.  I have done that before, when on of the doctors started asking me a lot of questions about how much I was going through.

thanks for your thoughts though, and if you think me not taking precriptions for that long is close enough I can do that.

You do take a lot of pills, really.  If you want to know if you're addicted just don't take anything for 24 to 48 hrs. You'll know by then because you will not feel well at all.

Let us know~Good luck~
