Today is 2 weeks on suboxene and im trying to taper any suggestions?

My dr has me taking 8mg of sub in the morning and 8mg in the evening and i dont go back to see him until April 23rd. I feel good every day but i feel i could start slowly tapering. Last night i took 8mg of sub in the am and then i split my 8 in half and took 4mg of sub in the evening. I did the same today i know it has like a 36 half life or something so i dont know if i would feel the effect of the taper yet. Any suggestions if im doing the right thing and how often can i taper and how much should i decrease my dose. I took subtex a couple of years ago and i started with 8mg a day and i tapered over a 4 week period until i was done. I didnt feel so bad but i was taking as many pills as i was before they started me on the sub 2 weeks ago. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Rachael

Like the others said, you really don't need that much. Cut down; you probably won't notice a difference. When I first started, my doc prescribed 8mg one or twice daily but I quickly learned that I needed only about 2mg daily, and I quickly cut down from that. Try cutting drastically and see what happens; the worst is you will take a little more, which is what you were doing to begin with. The bottom line is, this drug is extremely powerful (40X more powerful than morphine). You don't need much to do the job.

You don't really say much about the circumstances so more cannot be said.

Regardless - - please! please! do not make decisions like this without the guidance of your doc. Even if they were to be deemed compatible, there are many variables to be considered.

Stay safe.

Thats great! Im going to check out GNC tomorrow, i cant believe u got all the aminos for $30. I would pay anything to feel better and to never take another pill in my life. Think of all the money we wasted on pills. I definately not as scared to taper down now. I just kept asking my Dr if he wanted me to start tapering and he said lets not rush this as its not your first time relapsing. But i feel if i can get off them soon i will feel better off in the long run. I really cant even afford the dr visits and the price of the sub. I have insurance and it is still expensive. Well im really glad to here your starting to feel better each day thats great. Lets hope i dont feel like s--t tomorrow and in a couple of days i can take a little less sub.
Have a good night i will keep you posted.

It's no problem, and if you taper down, you shouldn't feel much w/d from the sub's but you have to taper down. You will feel a little sluggish and stuff but I didn't feel like i did when i came off lortabs c/t. It wasn't as bad plus the stuff I mentioned helps a bunch!!! You can get all of the amino acids from GNC for a total of about $30. If you ask me, that small amount of money was worth it. I am starting to feel better and better each day.

Thank you so much you have been so helpful to me. I will see how i feel tomorrow because its not a whole 36 hours yet since i started tapering. I heard you can feel pretty bad coming off the sub sometimes worse then just c/t our DOC. That scares me that's why im going to do a slow taper because i cant handle withdrawal symptons especially for weeks. You sound like your doing all good things to help you feel better i really heard good things about aminos and vitamins. Thank you again and feel better!

Actually, there are only 2 size suboxone pills. 2mg and 8mg. I was taking the 8mg one for about half a week. Then I started breaking them in half and taking 4mg a day. Always in the morning. The first day I stepped down, it was a little difference but not much and the day after, I felt like I did when I took the whole 8mg. Then I took 4mg (1/2 a pill) for about a half of a week then dropped down to 2mg (1/4 a pill) for about 2 or 3 more days. Just till it felt as if I had never dropped my dose. After that, I took 1/8 (half a 1/4) for 2 days then stopped taking it all together. I've been taking vitamins with energy boost (Centrum) in the morning for the sluggish feeling and Potassium supplements and Aleve cause my legs ache from time to time. I take Melatonin at night when I can't sleep and it knocks me out. Plus sometimes I need to take L-Theanine cause I get irratable at times. If you need to ask me anything that you don't understand, feel free to message me or post again and I'll try to help.

Wow thank you so much for that post! That sounds like a really good taper schedule. If you dont mind me asking you if you took sub how long did you stay on it and did you experience any wd symptons? Im feel im doing the right thing by tapering down. My dr wants me to continue taking 8mgs twice a day for over 1 month. I think that is crazy i dont know why dr's try and keep you on sub for so long. Im going to try and see if i can follow that taper schedule and im going to look into on starting on those aminos and some vitamins.
Thank you for your help!!

Congradulations on 2 weeks! That is so great to here! Really only two weeks if you dont mind me asking how much sub were you taking and how much did you taper. I dropped mine down yesterday i have been taking 18mgs of sub a day and yesterday broke a pill in half and took 12mgs for the day and the same today. I dont really feel to much of a difference since i tapered except some of my pain has come back but thats it. I fear it might be to soon and i will feel worse tomorrow. Im going to start taking the amino acids and vitamins i hear so many positive things about them. Well congrats again on stopping sub in 2 weeks that takes alot of willpower!

i didn't even have to taper down that drasticly, and i still have some but haven't even wanted to take it. It's been 5 days since i took it and i feel sluggish but fine for the most part.

A pill cutter or razor can be used to achieve the lower dosages, sub is also available in 2mg pils.

Day 1 (8mg to 12mg) - If all you needed was less than simply find your dose and reduce a little slower or in 1mg doses.
Day 2 (8mg to 12mg) Once a day.. or split into (2) 4mg or 6mg doses
Day 3 (8mg to 12mg)
Day 4 (6mg to 10mg)
Day 5 (6mg to 10mg)
Day 6 (6mg to 8mg)
Day 7 (4mg to 8mg)
Day 8 (4mg to 6mg)
Day 9 (4mg to 6mg)
Day 10 (2mg to 4mg)
Day 11 (2mg to 4mg)
Day 12 (2mg to 3mg)
Day 13 (1mg to 2mg) (at around this point you may start to feel the reductions)
Day 14 (1mg to 2mg)
Day 15 (1mg to 2mg)
Day 16 (.5mg to 1mg) (you can stop at this point if you are ready)
Day 17 (.5mg to 1mg)
Day 18 (.5mg to 1mg)
Days 19 to 21- (.25mg to .5mg) if you can break/cut the pills this small, this low amount will make the wds as mild as possible. A long drawn out taper is not really needed if you are not yet physically addicted to the sub, so feel free to make up your own plan, just try to jump at around the 1mg mark for the easiest overall time. (Short term sub detoxes only)

FOR LONGER TERM USE TAPERS- You can follow the same schedule as above, due to the long half life sometimes it takes up to three days to feel dose reductions. Also try to drag out the .25 and .50 mg as long as you can, if you can get away with every other day dosing that would be even better. The reason for such a long drawn out taper towards the end is to reduce the amount of sub you have in your body when you do finally stop. People have reported much milder wd symptoms that have used sub for longer periods of time if they paid their dues with a long drawn out partially painful/uncomfortable taper at extremely low doses. These low tapers lasted weeks up to a month at .5mg doses. For a lot of us addicts, this method for controlling our dosages is pretty difficult. If you just jump when you get down to .5mg your wds wont really be too bad. The problem with stopping sub is not really the severity of the wds, but the length of time they last for. And then there is always a very good chance that the PAWS (Post Acute Withdrawal Symptoms) will follow after the acute wds have subsided or stopped.

I would drop1- 2mgs every 2 days. Until you get down to 0.5mgs stay at that dose for a few days before stopping.

I will also post a good taper schedule that you can alter to your situation;

There are several others here that are on Sub. Post this in the morning to get their input. Just respond to this one and it will bump back up. They may have some insight for you.

I have been going to meeting lately i feel i really need them for me to learn how to cope with life without drugs. Also im seeing a private therapist weekly which also helps. I know for me not to relapse i shouldnt concentrate so much on tapering so quick off the sub but to learn how to function off pills. Very scary for me as i abused for a long time. But i will do anything it takes and i know my battle has just begun and this is nothing

The dr thinks i shouldnt rush it but im nervous as i dont want to become addicted to the sub and hve bad w/d's when i come off. My sister has been on suboxene for 3 years and that really scares me. We are both very different im at rockbottom with the vikes so i had no other choice but go on sub. My sister abuses the sub and when she can score pills she stops taking her sub. That's not for me anymore i lost alot being on all those pills for so long that i feel this was my last chance. I just am afraid the addict in me will become used to taking sub everyday.
Thanks for the post

gtm is right...the doctor is in the role of tapering you down to get off of the drug...i have read many posts and it seems as tho they get to 1mg or so daily before they quit CT...have u asked your doc?   also, have you thought about aftercare this time to help you stay clean?  getting clean/the  week or so WD is the easiest part...staying clean afterwards is where the aftercare is so important/and to me, after all is said and done/post wd is the hardest part of the process and the most time consuming part/...posting is good as well...keeps your memory updated...keep posting

Never took Suboxone but if you are seeing a Dr, they should have left you with a plan to follow. That's what you paid them for. I would call them and see what they think of tapering.
