I hate beets. I have never been able to stomach them... Until I heard about slicing fresh beets like potato chips. Coat them lightly w/olive oil and bake@350 until slightly crispy. Lightly salt them. I must say they are incredible. Beets are extremely good for cleansing the body. Thank you for reminding me. I think I'll get some.

Hi-I don't know in general, but I didn't crave fruits/veggies as part of all this. Matter of fact I haven't felt much like eating. I just thought juicing would be a good thing to do. Due to a chronic gastro condition I researched quite a bit about healthful food intake a few years back....I felt I could become a nutritionist! Anyway, I was impressed with the impact healthy eating had in general on the body. There are opponents of juicing that say that much of the 'goodness' is in the pulp (eating the food whole & uncooked) BUT no one agrees with any one view point on eating. For me, it just seemed to make sense that drinking stuff like this would help get some of the toxins out. I had planned to restart yoga again but just haven't been up for it. Yoga really is awesome if you can focus at home (DVD) or find a good instructor (you'll know if you've found him/her!) Yoga is the one thing that I used to do consistently that made a different in my chronic digestive illness (one that has required hospitalization 2-3 times a year) AND made a huge dent in stress.

I've heard and read that when you are pregnant your body craves what it needs....a friend thought ciggy ashes looked appetizing and told her doc who said they were high in some mineral-crazy, I know. Anyway, I totally believe that happens from when I was pregnant so I wouldn't be surprised if it were true in this area too.

I completely recommend my juicer: it was pricey but I did a lot of research when my previous one died after just a few months. My old one was a typical kitchen appliance. This one is hard core-you absolutely can feel, hear and see the quality (comes w/a 6 year guarentee!!). I swear it has a little car motor in there: so powerful, but just hums along. I think I paid close to $300 then but they've gone down a lot! You can get one now for just over $100. This one LOOKS like mine but is smaller I guess. In the description they keep referencing "the original Model 221 Pulp Ejector Juicer" which is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/Lequip-110-5-Mini-Ejector-Juicer/dp/B0000DDVN4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1196979012&sr=8-2 I read the reviews and some people said theirs jammed. I haven't had that happen with the exception of sticking fresh, raw ginger (which is like a little rock) in there and it got stuck because I was jamming it....all I had to do was drop the ginger in and press the plunger a little more gently at first than I do with other fruits/veggies. The book I use is: http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Book-Juicing-Delicious-Youthful/dp/0761511261/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1196979682&sr=8-1

I LOVE YOU GUYS! I'm cracking up!! Now I want to go by my own juicer! I'm a store bought girl
~Remember, not so good in the kitchen!  =)

*Hey jane, I love fruit and juice and have seriously been craving them since w/d started, is that typical, do you know? does the body just naturally start craving what it's been deprived of for so long?? I agree with you - it really does help the "stop-ups", I'm just afraid of what's to come if I keep eating/drinking this much once the tram is completely out of my system in a couple weeks! EEKS!

Oxygirl-it was a few watermelons followed by a couple of Havanna omelet splash sessions!! Which I was okay with since the Norco keeps me as stopped up as O'Hare.

Mary-if you really start to like juicing I highly recommend this book (ISBN 0-7615-1126-1) it has TONS of recipes and is one of the few I've seen that really talks you through prep work....I would've never guessed you could juice the pineapple and cantaloupe RINDS!!! The sections on each fruit & veggie are concise: 1-2 pages, total containing: the benefits, how to select & prepare, and recipes within the book the use the item

I've been having 3-5 drinks a day depending on what I feel my most immediate need is (naseua, fatigue, etc). In the evenings when I start getting naseous I hit the ginger drinks and may have 1 or 2. I'll have 1 for or with breakfast, a as snack in the AM and the PM. Some juices yield a lot more product than others....for example, the Color me Pink and the Cucumber Cooler are probably about 2 cups whereas the Digestive Delight is barely a cup. I've already noticed a difference in my skin-it isn't as dry as it normally is.

Hi Mary! You bet....I last used my juicer probably three years ago. Fortunately the one I bought was nearly industrial...while not so easy to clean it does an EXCELLENT job and has lasted a long time. The juicer I have is: L'Equip 221. If your juice can handle it the best thing is NOT to peel anything-kiwi, ginger, canteloupe, etc. For citrus you must remove the rind but KEEP as much white stuff as possible because that's where lots of good stuff is. When using ginger or fresh herbs you want to put those in 1st so the other veggies will force them out. When using garlic wrap the clove in some greenery (e.g. parsley) this will keep the garlic smell from your juicer and it helps ensure you GET the garlic because the garlic binds to the chlorophyll in the greens. I think you can mix carrots and apples with anything. Carrots are naturally sweet so are good with things that are not sweet to help balance it out. Another thing I read was that legumes (such as black beans) are very helpful for detox and are easy on your body. Here are some recipes:

BEETS-I do NOT like them but I think they had a huge impact (just judging by going from horrible constipation to reglar BM after ONE of the "Cleansing Cocktail"):

I haven't tried this one yet:
1 dandelion root (can sub 4 radishes)
1/2 beet including the top
2 carrots
1 apple

2nd Beet recipe:
1/2 beet w/tops
2-3 apples

3rd Beet recipe-this was okay, not great but SO effective:
Cleansing Cocktail
1/2 C parsley or wheatgrass
4 carrots
1 apple
2 celery ribs
1/2 beet with top (I forgot the top so it might be tastier if that is included)
Finally, you can mix beets with anything:
Use 1/2 beet w/top with any of the following:
4 carrots, 3 carrots & 2 celery, 4 carrots & handful of parsley; 3 carrots & 1/2 bell peper, 3 carrots & 1/2 C spinach, 1 sweet potato & 1 apple

The Energizer:
Handful of parsley (flat leaf is what I use)
6 carrots

Anything w/ginger will help w/naseau

Ginger Hopper
1/4 inch slice of fresh ginger (don't have to peel and cannot use powered)
1-2 apples
4 carrots

Don Juan
1/4 inch slice of fresh ginger
handful parsley
1/4 pineapply with skin, sliced

This is my FAVORITE-delish:
Digestive Delight
1/4 inch slice of fresh ginger
1/2 handful of mint
1 kiwi (unpeeled)
1/4 pineapple w/skin, sliced

Cucumber cooler-cukes are supposed to be great for detoxing. This drink tastes a bit like Gazpacho.
1 tomato (I used 4 roma)
1 cucumber (buy the English (or is it Canadian?) cukes in the plastic shrink wrap you don't have to peel them...these are wrapped in plastic so the producers don't have to spray with wax)
2 celery ribs
Handfull of parsley

Grapefruit is supposed to be really good for liver stuff
Color me Pink
1 C raspberrie (put these in first)
1/2 pink grapefruit, peeled (I used a whole one-it was on the small side)

This one is okay...I'm going to try with a little less cinnamon or w/more apple. Another one for liver function:
Apple Spice
1/4 inch  slice of fresh ginger
3 apples
1/4 t cinnamon

Havent' tried this one, but is one they recommend for naseau:
Tummy Tonic
1/4 inch slice of fresh ginger
1/2 handful fresh mint
1/2 small fennel (this herb is good for naseau & digestion)
2 apples

A rule of thumb offered in this book is no more than 1/4 of your input should be green stuff, else it might be yucky.

If there is a specific type of fruit, veggie, or condition you want me to look up just let me know.
