went to my oain specialist today, and told him i was weening off of percs. he said stop ,he put me on a long acting moraphine with percs to be used for breakthrourgh pain???? am i just nuts orn a freickin idiot????????????????? PLEASE HELP

two yrs ago was sent to him for severe leg anf back pain was om 10/325 percs for two yrs 6 to 8 a day. i c/t about amonth ago for 12m days but the pain was so bad went back to percs. but i weened my self down to three aday, went to the dr told him what was going on so he put me on 30mgavinza, it is a type of morphine , and i am to take up to 4 percs a day for any pain this doesnt take care of, like i was talking to a brick wall. i do have 4 herinated disc and neuorpthy from renal failure . the pain dr said i can not life any kind of life with out these meds , that is if i want to have any active life HELP PLEASE

Your now running with the big dogs....Morphine........If you want to quit and are only taking perc's.  You will be in hell of all hells getting off that.  Don't mess around with Morph.  Its the beast !!

If you fill that script then your going into the stupid zone !

hello guy quite beatin youself down, that wont help! what was you going to the dr. for to begin with? how many pills a day& for how long? i cant believe you told him you where tring to cut back and he gave you what kind of time released moraphine? im confused! that sure wasnt to help you with the opiates. you might hold of on that and get a second opinion. why did you start going to him?      sherri

Don't use his advice as an excuse to continue taking meds you don't need.  If you were able to wean down to 3 a day, you certainly didn't need the 6 or 8 a day he was willing to prescribe.  If you are really concerned about addiction, and i think you are or you wouldn't be on this site?, I would step back and take a hard look at what he is suggesting you do.  Sounds like a lifetime of pills and turmoil to me.  Someday your pain may get to that point, but why rush it now if you don't need it.

No u are not stupid...u r maybe if u do what he told u to do....was he listening to u?  did u hear him right?  Most doctors have a problem with prescribing narcs much less when u tell them u dont want them...something does not sound right...perhaps he is a quack or ur communication was really bad...i amy touch base again with him and be sure i made myself clear

With doctors like that who needs enemies!! Man if he were my doctor i woud so be in trouble.  When I told my doctor the reply was - well you know you will never get anything from this establishment again and actually that was grreat to hear.  I wish you the best.  I don't know what type of pain you are dealing with but I can tell you that since I have stopped using the rx's I have a lot LESS pain.  Go figure.....  Makes no sense to me but it is true.  Good luck hon!

is the morphine a patch? I was talking to someone yesterday who has a pill problem but uses the patches??

You are not stupid...Like GTMI said....it depends on what you want and feel you need. One of the most important things is to not beat yourself up....as soon as you quit doing that it really helps.

He said to stop what? Stop weaning or stop taking? Sounds like he is wanting you on the drugs. It boils down to what do you want? And no, you are not stupid.
