dont know about forcing...but IF you can get your brother to just give it a try...you might be surprised. there has been many a person who felt forced into rehab, either by their family or the law, who once in there something "clicked". with clean time and the constant meetings, therapy, etc...they decide that this might just work for them. then they actually start applying themselves.
with that being said...there are just as many ppl, if not more, who go to rehab "willingly" who use the day of getting out of rehab.
true...the addict has to want it for any chance at succeeding...but you can help give him the tools and the opportunity to be successful.
You cant unless he is under the age of 18 .you could all try to talk to him and tell him how much you all love him and the fear you have but if he does not want to get clean its not going to matter what others say .I will say a prayer I hope he relizes he needs help.
You can't force someone into rehab. If you could, the fact that you used force would just make it prison, not rehab. But surely you've seen that tv show "Intervention." That's the textbook example of how to persuade someone who is reluctant, to go to rehab of their own free will. You all get together and let him know that because you love him, everyone in his life will stop doing the things that allow him to go on this way unless he accepts the "gift" of rehab. You have it set up so that when he weighs his choices - being cut off from family and friends, or a stint at rehab; an opportunity that thousands of people would do anything to have - he realizes he has to say yes, and you have the appointments made and he is on his way before he can change his mind. If you do the preparation and everyone is on board this can work even with someone who would never make that choice on their own. Good luck.
I agree with the above post that it is hard to force into rehab... One way is he a dangerous to himself and others you can get him in hospital on 5150 hold but that is not rehab sometimes once they get into hospital and have hold them 72 hrs and no way they can leave or sign self out. A lot times they will then go to rehab because have had 3 days sober up... Like to know more let me know. We had to do that to my sister...
I am praying for your brother and for your family. Its really hard to force someone into rehab, because if he still wants the drugs after rehab, which we usually do, then he'll go right back to it. The way my neice stopped shooting up was when she got in trouble with the law and was forced to go into rehab. It scared her and never did it again. Keep talking to him about it, he's listening!
