opiate addiction

I recently found out that my son has been using opiate since July 2008. He is addicted. He has agreed to an out patient program and exploring suboxin. Are we headed in the right direction?

I myself have been on opiates (vicodin and percoset) for two years. I was taking atleast 20 10mg tabs a day. Three days ago decided to go cold turkey due to an intervention u might say. Its been very rough especially today. I found the Thomas Recipe on thgis site and its helped a lot with the w/d symptoms. It can be done. Best of luck to u all.

depending on how much he was taking...and for how long....will determine if he can quit cold turkey. some people can.  both the people that can quit cold turkey, i believe, are...NOT addicted, obviously.

there are insane physical withdrawls he will go thru......just read this site and u will see. being tired, being depressed, restless leg syndrome, throwing up, diahrea (spelling??), can't sleep, no appetite, irritation...........to name a few.

BUT, ur in the right spot for help.  everyone on here has sooooo many personal stories...ways they coped with the withdrawwls....things of that sort.

does he want to quit cold turkey? or is he interested in a suboxone plan?

He is taking oxy pills and has tried heroine. As afr as I know he was using on a daily basis since July. He told us 5 days ago. Since he has seen his family physician and behavioral counselor. He claims he can quit cold turkey, but I think we know better.
