I agree with you. I've always felt that cold turkey detox could be dangerous for many people and have been a proponent of tapering meds since I joined this forum. At the very least, tapering is better tolerated and safer. I feel we should all be very careful about giving cold turkey advice...about giving ANY medical advice.
I hope you're feeling better now. As far as "put downs" go...I don't see any evidence of that. Sometimes meaning is lost in translation but in this forum it doesn't matter if someone is dependent or addicted to drugs; the support is exactly the same.
I agree totally. That is one of the reasons I did a slow taper. I wasn't abusing, craving, going to the streets to buy but I decided I was taking more than I felt I needed to take and wanted to get out of the dependency cycle. Even though not abusing, my body was addicted. I hated waking up feeling like crap every morning. Was I taking a pill bc of pain or bc my stomach was upset, I was tired etc? As I tapered down I definitely saw it was bc how I felt not my pain all the time.
Many don't realize what wd an do to your body and the lasting affects. And Boone know how they will react. I am not an advocate of going ct but I know many can't control their use so it is that or having someone control the use and taper.
I hope you are able to find a balance for your health. Being in the hospital is not fun. Did they say why Excedrin is a not good? Is it aspirin? I always take generic ibuprofen so not familiar with what is in Excedrin.
Hey lady, i read your post a few times and forgive me, im not quite sure whats being said.
Anyway, im glad your still posting : )
I believe your just as entitled as the next person to be on this forum, no matter what your situation.
Take care : )
Hmmm, I'm also not seeing any put downs?
You have to understand hon that THIS is an addiction forum, so the vast majority of the people giving advice are going to steer people away from opiates, because there are numerous reasons that they'e just NOT optimal for chronic pain control, and they can actually end up making pain worse in the long run.
There are plenty of folks here that still need pain medication to some degree to treat their pain. It's tough as an addict to have to do that, but with VERY careful planning and accountability, it's possible.
If I may ask....do you feel you're just dependent on the pain pills, or addicted? Were you abusing them? Taking more than Rx'ed? Supplementing pills from other sources (ie the street)? Do you have mental cravings? Pill counting?
While they're very similar in a lot of ways, dependency and addiction DO vary a lot also...and it's REALLY important to identify which you're dealing with to know how to properly address it, especially if you're still needing pain medication.
Very best to you...I hope you get everything figured out. This forum will give you all kinds of support and helpful info.
This is why we cant post taper schedules. What you have had happen is the reason we cant do this. We always want you to be safe. Talking with your doctor is the best thing as many of us had underlying medical issues we didnt know about, I am glad you are okay~
Oh I forgot to mention at hospital I asked for excedrin which I had in purse. Oh no can't take that. Oh but how many Percocet do u want. Wtf people. Isn't that stupid.
Thanks so much. I've been reading daily since Apr. What ive seen no matter what pills bad. I totally agree with you if addiction. But my god if legit pain or preexisting. Please don't do it.
I guess I don't understand what your point is? Where are you getting "put downs"? I don't see anyone putting you down. I would absolutely agree that before quitting cold turkey, you should consult with your doctor. I would also agree that you should not go cold turkey if you are not in otherwise good health, or if you have any type of underlying health issues, especially a heart or blood pressure issue.
For many people, myself included, quitting cold turkey, while it was uncomfortable and I felt sick for some days, was safe for me to do so. However, everyone is different, and whenever possible it is recommended to talk to a doctor before quitting cold turkey.
Sorry you are dealing with all your medical problems and pain. I hope you feel better soon. All the best.
Thank u so much for support. I guess no one else gets its or understand
I guess im on wrong site. There is people have legit pain but not addictive. Just listened to Dr's im so disappointed with this site. Wtf people. Bc I'm not addictive I get put downs. So sorry. Just don't go ct if u have heart problems with legit pain

You are one tough cookie my friend. Thank you for posting this. I agree its very important to be upfront with your doctor and heed advice on withdrawal...id never do it again without supervision..as I'm quite confident without you and all our other family on here..i probably would've started to shut down nearly from malnutrition and dehydration. Must less the heart pounding anxiety...and all the other horrific details. You my girl are very lucky. Don't do it again...please :) I went to the doctor and still over 30 days later have high Bp, and I've always had very low Bp. It has serious affects for sure, as I'm still feeling them. So glad your still with us..love you girlie
