no need for apologies, we are all different ,i too did it cold turkey,i think his leg issues need a drs. view so i too hope he posts again. take care :)
I think my experience is just different. I have never been prescribed oxycontin I bought off the street and don't know what its like to have a doctor willing to help or make a taper plan. For me I could never taper because if there was oc in front of me I would do it no matter what. I coudnt save it, but thats just me and everyones different. So I thnk i was just looking at this situation from a different perspective. All I really know is the cold turkey approach and I have come off of very high dosages of oxycontin about 350mg a day and the WD were h e l l but I made it through. That's all I meant. I think everyones got good advice. My apologizies if I didnt look at this sitatuation with a broader perspective. Hope fully he will come back on and let us know how hes doing.
also i beg to differ with the above poster, it can be dangerous in some circumstances.
hi, i dont think you should have flushed the morphine, you really needed a Drs. supervision to come off these meds, i hope you will reply and tell us how much and how often your dose was, just so we can help more. if the feelings in your legs came back isnt that a good thing? anyway, your now on day 3? and as mpace said your body still had some morphine in when you posted, you will feel worse , and usually days 4/5 are not good, i do wish you well, but please see a dr. and tell him/her everything, god bless.
If you want to stop using then what you did can actually be one of the best decisions you ever made. I have to kindly disagree with the person above me, I understand what they were saying that You will be in for a major WD however, it can be done and opiate wd's no matter the amount or time taking it can NEVER kill you. It will be painful and you'll have to fight through it but if you stick to it, you will make it out the other side. I'd say day 3 is usually the worst of the WD's and from each day after that things get slightly better. Basically, Day 3 is the peaking point i'd say. Have you ever tried to stop before or gone through WD? If not, you will experience hot cold flashes, sweating, pain, muscle cramps, insomnia, diarreah, possible nausea, restless legs, etc. These are all normal symptoms as your body detoxes the opiates out. There are lots of vitamins you can take to help, I think it's listed at the bottom right hand corner of this site under Thomas Recipe or Amino Acid Protocol. Drink lots of water. You can wrap your legs in heating pads i've found that helps the restless legs. Bathes and showers help too. It's important to have support so post on here as much as you can. Does anyone in your life know you are stopping? Let us know how you are feeling, congrats on day 1!
No day 1-2 you still have some of the morphine in your system so the w/d will get worse. Insomnia, nightly leg cramps, sweats. How much morphine were you taking for 6 years? What were you thinking by flushing your morphine. Didn't you think that just maybe the return of the feeling in you legs was temporary and it might return to the way it has been for 6 years? Quitting after 6 years of steady use of morphine and then to just up and quit cold turkey can be done but the Dr. that has been prescribing the morphine would probably be glat to titrate your dose over a 4-6 week period and your body can adjust gradually which will increase your odds of success. Does the Dr think that the pain in your legs is gone forever? Too late now but that inpulsive action wasnt the best thing that you could hav done. Good Luck
