success getting off xanax!!

Hi..I know it's been a while since I have been here. Just wanted to say it has been 2 months since my last xanax dose. I have broken away from the insane psychiatrist who put me on 8mg daily for 3 years. Fact is I'm proud of this accomplishment and encourage ALL to be be pill free, except where there is a real medical need. Addictive drugs are to be avoided like the plague. Steve

Hey Steve when I first read your story I was I bit sceptical. How could a person detox of of 8mgs of Xanax in a matter of two weeks? If it sounds to good too good to be true then it is. You tapered with another longer acting benzo. Klonopin which last much longer and cost about 3 times as much. But never the less you still are on your way to becoming drug free in the near future. Many people suffer form PTSD. and anxiety attacks. How they get through it without a medication amazes me. Many end up in the ER thinking they are having heart attacks. Xanax is a quick acting drug for people who suffer from occasional anxiety attacks, But not as a maintenance medication. Klonopin is the the proper maintenance drug for those who suffer from daily anxiety issues. I assume you fall under that category, Your former did not move you up to 8mgs based on his own decision who had some say in that matter. Regardless you did realize that your tolerance to xanax was getting higher and higher. You made a good decision to get a new MD and get your tolerance under control. But I think a lot of people are going to be a little disappointment that you are still on a benzo under another name. But you are certainly on your way to at least getting your addiction down to a manageable level. Good Job. Keep it up! Have a Merry Xmas and a Great New Year!------------NOAH

Thanks and Merry Christmas!! I did it with a very temporary substitution of klonopin at 2mg per 1 mg xanax and did a very quick klonopin taper after the critical 2 week period was over. Never got addicted to the high dose klonopin, either. I'm now at 2mg and my doc wants to keep me at that.
I do have a legitimate medical reason for being on a little.

Hi, please share your story.  I have recently got off 12 years of pain pills from fentanyl to percocet but am still on xanex.  I am giving my body a little break until I taper from xanex.  Please let us in on how you did it.

Exactly how did you get off the Xanax in such a short peroid of time. I heard it takes months to do this. Did you ween or use another drug to get off? Please share your accomplishment with us I am very curious? Thank You and congrats------Noah

congrats you are exactly right on pills they are an epidemic, ppl are controlled by them, im tired of being one of those ppl, 10 years of drugs and alcohol are long enough im done
