tapering system is it better than quiting cold turkey?

I am currenlty out of hydro's 10/325, want to quit using a taper system with tylenol 3's, is this wise? I was taking about 12 to 15 vics a day for about 2 years (recently had back surgery in April), still having some BACK PAIN from surgery.  but I really want to quit the vics. I want to be drug free, just want to be normal again.

tapering is hard for most addicts..if someone held ur pills it may be easier....i would kinda look at this as almost a ct with a little help from the tylenol 3s to lessen the wd a tad...whatever u need to do to get celan that will work is worth a shot..good luck and keep posting

The hydro's you've been taking contain Tylenol as well. The APAP in these is just another name for Tylenol. Each Tylenol 3 contains 300mg of Tylenol. 4,000mg a day is the recommended upper limit. So, if you do use them, be wary of taking too many.

I know what you mean about having some by your bedside.  I have another script for the hydro's, but I don't want to refill it. so i I'm turning to my tylenol 3's to help with the withdrawls from the hydro's.  I will go along this taper system with you for support.  We need all the support we can get.  I to have a husband and 3 children, and your right it's not fair to them.  I sometimes wonder How my kids see me.  If I seem lupie or high all the time, and they probably wonder when the hell is mom going to get better.  before I surgery, I used to drink coffee all the time and was full of energy (even though I had a lot of back pain) I still managed to have a normal but restricted life, but now I don't go anywhere, don't want to see anyone and I only do my house work when I'm all vic'ed up.  I found out just today, that if you write down your schedule of when you plan to take your pills and stick to that schedule, it will help and we will become overcomers.  We can do this, just think of the payoff, normal life again, not controlled by drugs, lets take this one day at a time.  Also don't carry your pills with you, I found out if I leave my pills at home and out of my purse, I won't take them as much.

i tryed cold trukey  that's hard whin u have 120 beside your bed.so i gave them to my wife .my back hurt's some but not to bad..i am going to try 4 a day for 1 week and then go to 3 aday for a week and so on.pray it work's . if u can try it with me and see if it will work  i have been on 10-650 for 5 year's some day's i would take 20 pill's way to much.i just won't my life back.not looking around for them i spent so much money  it not funny.and not fare to my wife and kid's  please talk back to me    chicken9

I'm out of hydro's but thought the tylenol would help with the withdrawls.  I have a wrote down  a plan for the tylenol.  Take 3 at 8am and 3 every four hours, next day take 2 starting at 8am again 2 every four hours.  Day 3 take 2 at 8am and 2 again the next 6 hours, by day 4 taking 1 every 6hours, and by day 5 taking 1 for sleep and taking one on day 6 for sleep and by day 7 stop all together.  Is this reasonable?

Don't know if the codine will work or not. It's worth a try if that is what it takes to get clean. I was never able to wean off hydros because I couldn't control them so maybe the Tylenol will help some. Probably still go through withdrawl but it might ease it. Read the Thomas recipe and amino acid proticol in the top right of the forum under health pages. It will help alot. Good luck. I hope they help. God bless, Corey

Tylenol 3's are fairly benign compared to hydro's. So, you be having to take a lot of Tylenol 3's to compare to just one hydro. That will be a lot of Tylenol to ingest. Why not taper with just hydros? Cut back say half a pill every 5 days.
