tramadol addiction and withdrawl

by beckyhar, Nov 03, 2008 11:16AM
I've been taking large quantities of tramadol that I purchased online. At this point I have dropped from 30 pills a day to 6 a day. I know that now is when the withdrawls symptoms will get worse. Does anyone know if the large quantities of tramadol damage kidneys and/or liver? Also, any advice for the next phase of withdrawl. Can tramadol withdrawls cause seizures?
Thanks, Beckyy

h becky, i have never taken trams but many here have.  i do know that you have to do a taper with them because of the potential for siezures.  just hang in there i am sure some who have experience with this drug will be around soon.  good job on going from 30 to 6 per day....

Hi becky -

i was on 20 a day and have been tapering down to 1.  I have been on one pill now for a couple days and through out this whole taper the withdrawls have been mild.  Thursday will be my last day and I will be done.  Im not sure how the withdrawls will be when I have zero in my system but i hope this taper that I have been doing since Dec 15 has helped.  Ive only had 1 or 2 nights where i tossed and turned but overall still got about 6 hours of sleep.    As far as liver damage, Im not sure.  I would go to the doctor and check,  I was doing 20 pills of Tram for 2 years straight every day and when i had my liver tested they said my enzymes were slightly elevated but nothing to be concerned with.   I dont drink though and im 29 so the only harmful drug Ive ever had in my system is Tram.  Hope this helps...

I am in total awe of you!  Tapering to 1 tram a day~~~you must be incredibly strong, and I envy you with every fiber of my being.  I have taken 8 trams (50 mgs.) a day for 14 months, and the w/d stories frighten me so much, I have nightmares but can't give up the trams; I feel so guilty!  I wish I had 1/8th of your strength!

God bless you and all of us who struggle with addiction.  We are a nation of sufferers.  Hindsight is 20/20 and of course, I wish I could turn back the hands of the clock and remake the decision on tramadols to NOT continue on them.

Anyway, may God continue to give you strength and the firm-mindedness to stop completely.  I'm so proud of you!

Thank you Jek

I wish I could pretend I was a very strong person but really the W/Ds havent been that bad for me and I have my girlfriend here to help as well. Id be happy to tell you exactly what Ive done to come down to .75 if you think it will help.  You never know how the W/Ds will be with you and slowly tapering it is a great way to fight it!
