Yes it is very doable.  You have come to the right place. There are so many helpful people here. You can go cold turkey or taper.  You will need alot of support. Tell us about you. Do you have family and friends to help? Do you work ? Can you take time off work for cold turkey ? Keep reading and posting here. You are headed in the right direction.   Mary

Sorry didn't answer you question.  If you go cold turkey you will feel like you have a really bad flu for 3-7 days. Then you start to feel better gradually.

do you just want to stop taking pills or do you want to possibly never take pills again?

You've come to the right place - welcome.  How much Vicodin are you prescribed to take in 1 day and how much are you actually taking?
I was taking 10-12 Vicodin tablets / day @ 5/500mg for 8 months (approximately 22% of the time you were taking your Vicodin).  I began a successful tapering regime on 11/21 and have just celebrated my 5 day sobriety (0 Vicodin).  This IS do-able if you are committed.  However, if you choose to do a tapering schedule, we'll need to know your dosages, etc.  Also, you need to review the 'Thomas Recipe' for some really helpful advice on withdrawal symptoms - and how to help yourself out as you go through them.
I hope to read your posts soon - and congratulations for looking in to discontinuing the use of drugs.  It's a big step - but you've done the right thing.  Sending positive encouragement and hope your way...
