I also would say anxiety. There is a symptom of anxiety with its own name that sounds precisely what you're describing. It's called globus hystericus. Read here:

Just an idea. Have you had any anxiety during the taper process?
If I had to guess what's going on, I would say it's related to the allergy symptoms that often accompany detox. I have horrible allergies all year round, and during my detox I was a snotty mess! Sneezing, coughing, runny nose, watery eyes. Ughh! It's probably just an irritation thing. Maybe some OTC allergy med for the time being like Claratin, Zyrtec, or Allegra? Could be worth a try. I hope that this passes soon. Sounds miserable!
Yes Annie u said it best!! Exactly, like to much saliva, but at the same time my esophagus feels narrower!!...thats exaclty how it is!!!...but not like anxiety at all!....makes me want to take more oxy just so it will stop!...that's one of the main things that's making this taper so hard...its weird tho too, when I take opiates my ears get really plugged..like idk maybe it plugs everything up, then when I stop or take less it drains big time!!!...cuz my ears do.unplug when I stop or take less...just weird tho cuz I look w/a flashlight & there's NOTHING there draining down my throat!!!!...UGGGHHH!!!!...
I think Butterfly might be right. I really do. I think your body can have it's own 'anxiety' reactions w/o you necessarily experiencing actual mental panic.
Wow! (You had it the whole time?) Like there was too much saliva being produced & at the same time your esophagus feels 'narrower' somehow? Is that what you're saying. I'd like to believe that this is a symptom that would eventually have disappeared. M'done is Rough, as you know. The symptoms last so much longer. (My sneezing & the sweats didn't stop for 4 mos!)
When I was tapering from hydrocodone my throat did that. It was anxiety.. I got scared at one point and drank some benadryl because I was afraid I was having an allergic reaction to something. However, it was anxiety from my body wanting more than the amount of hydrocodone that I was giving it. I hope you feel better!
No, don't smoke, never have...I got off methadone completely, was off for 3months, clean didn't take ANYTHING for those 3months & I had it the whole time, never went away...then when I started taking oxy, it immediately went away!!!...WTF!?....weird huh!?!?....its driving me CRAAAZZZYYYYY!!!!!.....haha!
You know...It's weird but some people DO get their own particular symptoms. Have you ever kicked before? (What I'm asking is what happens w/ this symptom when you're in full w/d?) Sometimes, folks get a tightening in their chests. Are you a smoker by any chance?
No Annie, nothing like anxiety or anything...just feels like something is running down my throat, to the point that it seems like its closing off!!..I got the same thing when I was tapering & stopped methadone!...I ask everybody who is/has gone thru withdrawal & it seems its just me that gets this...& its not just the tapering, if I were to just stop completely I would still get it!!..just seems like anytime I'm.off opiates or taking less, this happens!...makes me have 0 appetite!!!....what to do!?
Does any feeling of anxiety accompany this? Are there any other symptoms you experience when taking less oxys?
