treatment for adrenal fatigue

In 2007 my life changed or I thought it did, long story, but I ended up with what I now know was anxiety.  I was put on Klonopin for sleep and hated being on a benzodiazapin so I worked very hard to come off of it.  It took months of what I thought was withdrawal, but you know that anxiety has the same symptoms.  Anyway after a few months I was feeling normal again.  Then came a disturbing family issue that I had to take care of by myself because my brother and sister were too busy.  I suffered for awhile after that.  By this past Thanksgiving I was in heaven.  I finally felt like my old self and was happy, working out everyday, etc.  Then my mom got sick and I had to go back to Ct. twice in one month. I had to make all the arrangements and handle all of the necessary things that come with estate stuff etc.  She was alone at 99 and it was a very sad situation.  She finally passed away in Jan. and again I had to arrange everything...on and on it goes.
Anyway, I was ok until last week when all of a sudden I began feeling like I did back in 2007.  I haven't slept for a week now.  I have some klonopin left..I know that it will work, but I hate to start that old **** again.  I have been on synthroid for years.  Now I am freezing all the time, unable to sleep, tired all day until about 6pm.  I think that I may have adrenal fatigue from all of the stress, but Drs. think I am crazy.  Is there really such a thing and what is the treatment if you have it.  I can't afford 171.00 for the test.  I thought maybe I could try whatever it is that it is treated with to see if it works.  I sure have all the symptoms.
Thanks,
Lilymet

I am not stella but I do have adrenal problems and have studied this extensively. These are some things I have learned and you might want to research before you start them to verify for yourself.

Vit C 6-10 gms a day, yes 6-10 gms a day, spread out, as the adrenals are high in vit c.

also, check your bp and if it is low add sea salt, the real stuff, (off colored),

DHEA is great and Licorice root, but the Licorice root it is a good idea to take one week on and one week off.

Usually Magnesium is needed as well. Try to remove as much stress as you can, I KNOW I KNOW, easy to say hard to do. Trust me, I know.

It is a long slow process and my ND told me it took a long time to get here, and it will take a long time to recover.

I love to add things, but I can't

enzy nailed everything - she is wonderful!

Really, you need to figure out what is off and re- balance - or add what you are missing. If you add up all the money you will spend guessing - it may just be worth the plunge of taking the darn test and work off that.

I spent a fortune guessing. I could have went on vacation after I finally figured out what the deal was -

Take the test - it's worth it.

PS - STRESS wreeks havoc on the adrenals -especially w/thyroid- You had your share -

There are different treatments depending on which adrenal hormones you are deficient in. Hydrocortisone is for low cortisol, the most important test.
Fludrocortisone is used to treat low aldosterone (salt balance) if needed, DHEA, etc.
Self treatment for adrenal fatigue can work, but its hit or miss, without testing. Thyroid and adrenal hormones have to be in proper balance with each other. If you're getting more synthroid than you actually need, it will unbalance your adrenal hormones.
Vitamin B5 will help support the adrenals. A good B multvitamin and extra B5 and vitamin C are very helpful.
