I have never had chest pains.  I have to admit if I did ever get chest pains with my middle of the night episodes, I would call 911.  Do you take 81 mg asprin?  My doc has me taking that also.  Do you stay hydrated?  Lack of electroyltes can cause a heart attack and other heart issues. When you drink alcohol you are always more dehydrated than the average person...

Girl don't even worry. I've have heart palpitations for a while (Thank you anxiety) go off of the caffeine & exercise. I still have heart palpitations but they get better once you start doing those two things. It is scary exercising when you feel this way, i know. I deal with it every time I exercise but you feel so much better when you're done. You get use to it once you stop worrying about it. It is pretty tiring though!

hey girl , so sorry your going throught this , when the paps come they leave us to scared to live most of the time , but yes ive learn to go on with my life with them with me.

ive even gone outside in 95 degree hot weather and mow my yard when they were bad just to see if it killed me , and when they didnt i felt better knowing i mowed the grass and still alive so i knew it was just thosesdarn pac again, i will push myself to do things to see what my heart dose. i use to sit around and be scared been there , but now if they are going to kill me do it get it over with or ride along with me how i look at it.

its not easy but , the more you do the better your heart muscle is, it gets stronger and sitting around only makes it weak i did that for a while, than my drs keep saying you need to walk make your heart muscle stronger , your sitting around getting no execrise and its not good for your heart. so i did as he said and am still here and feel much better for it , it also helps with the anxiety when i walk.

try it and you will see the pac/pvc did not kill you and you will feel better . take care Barb

i would say if youo can stop drinking and smoking it will help you out a lot, thatswhere some of your problems could be coming from, am not a drinker /smoker so not sure if it makes worse but have heard others say they do.

i also take a beta blocker have for 25 years no problems with mine been on same one and same dose  never changed it and it dose a great job.

try and relax some, finmd other things to do , call a friend ,take a walk that helps me .

hi hun someone told me that beta blockers make the symptoms worse, i have cut my dose on them a lot from 120mg a day to 60mg i do wanna come off them totally cause they are my security blanket, i also have a BP monitor which is usually shoved on my arm 20 times a day, i feel the same if my BP and pulse are ok then i relax. my BP is always normal and pulse very rarely over 100.
when i had had this palpatation episode i didn do my pulse cause it was over by the time i had sat up and panicked. i have the biggest fear in the world of dying and my therapist says i feel all these symptoms because of my heart attack fear, i notice things that un anxious people wouldn even feel in their bodies. i pick up on every heart related thing and worry myself sick.
my echo was good too and i should be satisfied with that, mt doc refuses me more tests it hurts him that im spending so much money on them and wasting my life worrying

its a no win situation!!!

Do you have a blood pressure cuff / pulse monitor at home?  I have the wrist kind. This is why I know it's mental for me...when I see that my pulse and blood pressure are ok, they i magically feel better.  When you have the palps do you know how high your heart rate is?  You do need to know this, if you dont how do you know if you should go to the hospital or ignore??
If you dont have one you should get one, or just take your pulse rate with a watch, keep a chart, they have that heart tracker on here. It is awesome, you can make notes chart your episodes.  I started using it about two weeks ago and I have had 3 episodes.

Well, since my ECHO and my stress test were normal the last test is the nuclear stress test where they will really get a good look at my heart. If I have PVC's or SVT's, blockage, that type of diagnosis, or anything else they can find.  I did have very mild mitral valve regurgitation, but he said that was common in women and it was not causing my symptoms.  He said that during drinking or after drinking can cause the out of the blue rapid heart rate, it can also caouse full blown atrial fibs, which I have never had. My is just simple tachycardia. I have been drinking heavily so many years and never had any heart issues but when I started doing the research I found it was very common in alcoholics.  I still think my hormones are causing this and I am waiting to get the blood work done ( a full hormone work up).  I might get in done today if my doc calls it in. I have been spotting for 2.5 months and having other hormonal symtoms. Zoloft does not help anxiety, it is an anti depressant. That is more dangerous to mix with alcohol than benzo's that are short acting in you system. I dont recommend anti depressant for a person with anxiety disorder, even though the docs always try to put us women on them. More than likely you are having anxiety attacks, that is what is causing your heart issues, since you have been checked by a cardiologist. Anxiety can do a lot of things to us that feel like a heart attack. Since you are on the beta blockers and this is still happening, what does your doc say?  I take 1 - 3 mg of Klonopin a day, one at 7am, one or 1/2 after lunch and now one before bed since this middle of the night stuff started. The beta blockers are sitting in the drawer.  Have you read all the side effects from the beta blockers?  I have read some forums and heard some horror stories. Also, once you get on them you cant stop them abruptly or you can have worse heart issues.  No thanks.  I will stick with my anxiety meds, because the anxiety is causing the heart issues. If I am having the rapid heartbeat in the middle of the night I take an anxiety med and yes within 30 -40 mins I am back to normal and back to sleep.  I have also cut way down on the drinking and trying to cut down on the smoking... I have had this anxiety since my early 20's and I am 38, it is very hard work and it really effects our lives and the people around us more than we realize.

what do u mean a real heart diagnosis?? i take the betas with alcohol i have been on them about 3 yrs, they dont stop the symptoms but i havent had a panic attack while i been on them.  i have been prescribed zoloft 50mg but there still in my cupboard, loads of people i know tell me i`ll be fine mixing them with alcohol but its a big risk to take. also im scared the side effects will make me feel even more anxious. i dont want to stop drinking i enjoy going out and having a drink in the house at night, my doc told me to take the zoloft just before i go to bed but then im scared that if i have been drinking then i will go in a coma in my sleep....god this anxiety is hard work
what meds are you on and have they helped with the heart symptoms?

My cardiologist gave me beta blockers and I refuse to go on them until after I have a real "heart diagnosis"  He said that was ok. If it is just anxiety I am afraid that when I am not anxious the beta blockers could cause my heart rate to slow down too much, also I dont want to quite drinking and I dont want to mix them , like you!
The hormones and stress could be the problem. You really need anxiety medication, you will fell 100% better.  You can drink on them, you just have to start off on a low dose and work your way up to a normal dose.  I know there are warning labels everywhere but they are very overrated!  If you feel weird or dizzy or you are slurring, cant walk, dont mix. If you are a seasoned drinker you should be fine.  It's the people that never drink and get drunk from 2 drinks that cant handle mixing drugs and alcohol.  Your body is used to the alcohol. There thousands of people that drink and mix a large dose of prescription drugs to get high and they are fine.

i have a contraception injection every 12 weeks and im 2 weeks late having it im wondering if that is causing me to feel worse cause my hormones are all over the place and with a marriage break up it dont help

Have you had your blood sugar checked...that could cause some of the symptoms you are having.

I have the same problem in the middle of the night.  It just started about 3 months ago.
I have had Stress test, ECHO and I have a nuclear stress test on Mar 10. I wore a holter monitor for 24 hours and my cardiologist saw the heartrate spike at 2:20am. It usually happens between 2:20 and 2:30AM. Very strange.  Do you drink? Do you take anxiety meds?  I drink a little less than a pint of Vodka a night and I am on Klonopin during the day 1 - 2 mg.  My cardio told me he thinks my problem is from drinking.  I have been drinking heavily for 20 years...so would thid start all the sudden.  I have cut my alcohol comsumption down by about 1/3 and then this middle of the night stuff starts.  I also have terrifying nigtmares that wake me up with rapid heartbeat, no more than 120bpm.
I have too latley become obsessed with my heart.  I am having to take more Klonopin just to cope and my sleep is very interruppted which makes me tired and grouchy at work.  I am going to the GYN to get a full  hormone work up done. I read that these symptoms could be pre-menopause too..

Ok, I have a answer for both of you.

The reason why sometimes we have symptoms even when we are not feeling the anxiety is.

When we are in the anxiety mode, cortisol is released first, thats what causes the "fight or flight" in order for our bodys to achieve this huge task "and its pretty huge" our brain tells the nerves to rapid fire "to make you alert of your wellbeing" heart rate increases, blood flows fast, and your brain tells all your body to "release" all its extra stored nutrients to achieve the "survival" mode.
After all of this happens, your body is left depleated of EVERYTHING, and thats what causes the symptoms, even though your not feeling the "anxious" part.
Often times, anxiety can cause Anemia, or visa versa.
That explains allot when you look at what certain nutrients, minerals, and Vitamins do for your body.

I watched a interesting show on discovery once on Cavemen and "panic attacks" and when you look at it all "even now in modern days" a panic attack "could" save your life.
I hate saying that because I hate it so much, But I bet when Im having a Panic Attack, I could do some things that I normaly couldnt do "normal"
Now Panic Disorder, GAD, PDSD and OCD are a different story

I had the same questions, why am I having an attack when I'm not anxious? My therapist told me that in most cases, that's when your body has an attack, when it is calm and relaxed. Being an anxious person, our bodies are so used to feeling tense and nervous, that we were aren't, it is like "Wait a second, what's going on", and goes into an attack. It made sense to me. Have you ever been really relaxed and tried to go to sleep, and all of the sudden your heart starts to race and your head starts to pound? Our bodies are so used to be worked up, and nervous all day, they don't know how to react when we are actually relaxed!

I have recently started sleeping with my iPod on, playing slow "sleep" songs. I made a playlist, it lasts about 5 hours and it helps me A LOT!

Take Care!

Relax, take a deep breath

Hows your diet? Have you had your heart checked before?
It could be something very minor, your heart probably fluttered a bit, woke you up, and that caused a slight "panic" about the situation, and the panic grew making your chest hurt.

Its funny, last night  I woke up to go pee, and went to lay down again and had a very strange "new" type of thing happen to me with my chest /upper body.
Not really pain, just extremely tight, freaked me out for a bit, then I got control of it, and went to sleep.
It only hurts till the pain is gone "thats what I told myself, lol"

Ive had heart pelps, BP spikes, flutters, you name it, Ive had it.
They got better when I stopped eating so much junk, then what do you know, I started eating junk again and the mild chest pains began again.
Do you exercise?
