Relax, if you can and know that what you are going through although extremely uncomfortable is not dangersous. You do not have the diseases you think you have, when your mind goes into panic mode, it looks for a reason, and will actually create, yes CREATE, physical sensations. This is called an outlet for your emotional panic. Also the symptoms will shift, and you will be certain you have X disease, or X problem. Know that this thinking, these feelings, have been felt by many many of us in extremes for years and years. I have had panic disorder and anxiety since I was 5. It's horrible some years, yes years, and some it is tolerable. Medicine may be the short term answer depending on your severity, but they all carry risks, you will have to judge what to do.
First try cognitive behavior therapy to learn how to deal with your new friend. Slow down drinking if you do, the stresses of college life are exactly the breeding ground for panic disorders to manifest. Think of it this way, some people stress and get mono, other people develop anxiety, like yourself. Its an outlet for you stress. So try and relax and release stress when you can through exercise or non stressful activities.
Good luck you'll be fine.
Medications have given many of us our lives back, it did me. The anxiety can be constant, and this is why you need to address it right away. Only a psychiatrist will know what medication would be best for you because we all respond differently to these types of meds. What works for one doesn't another, and so on. But it is well worth it to get your life back. Not everyone has the bad side effects of these medications, it's just that you only hear about the ones that do. I have been on several different ones thru the years with no issues at all. Also, keep in mind that often our anxiety can have a root cause, it's normally something from our past that we never truly dealt with. In therapy it can be determined if your's has one, what it is, deal with it and ease your anxiety. For some therapy is enough, for others it takes both therapy and medication. If you were diagnosed with diabetes you wouldn't think twice about taking the needed medication to control the symptoms, anxiety is no different. It's a shame that we don't hear more success stories from people on medication, but it's only when we have a bad
experience that we talk about it. Don't allow this to rob you of your life. Take care.
Thanks I think I am going to have to do that. I just don't want bad side effects from the medicine...Any recommendations?? And can anxiety be constant like this??
Anxiety can hit us right out of the blue and knock us for a loop! It can create so many physical symptoms that it's mind boggling! Your anxiety needs to be addressed with a psychiatrist. The two of you can determine the best course of treatment for you. You admit that it's better when you aren't dwelling on it, this is because our anxiety feeds off our fears and worry, so the less of this you do, the less anxiety you have. I know this is easier said than done, and this is why you need to seek help and get your life back. Anxiety is like any other medical condition that requires the care of a doctor whether it's therapy, medication or both. Psychiatrists are most knowlegable when it comes to the types of medications to treat anxiety. You're still a strong person, most cannot beat anxiety on their own, don't feel bad for this! There is so much help for you, and you need to take advanatge of it, the sooner......the better. You can, and will get your life back. Talking with us was a big step now take the next and make an appt. with a psychiatrist and go from there. I wish you all the best and do take care!
