Anxiety

I ran out of my Ativan and went to an Urgent Care center for enough pills to get me through until I see my regular doctor in a week. The urgent care doctor turned to me and quoted the last time I had seen my regular doctor and knew about the prescription from her.  Oddly enough he filled my prescription and gave me a warning that I was becoming addicted and to be careful.
Will he report me to my regular doctor?

Why did you run out of meds early?  Are you taking more than prescribed?  Are you abusing them?  You need to be honest with yourself here, because you can find yourself in one heck of a mess.  You can end up with an addiction problem if you are abusing them, and coming off benzos suddenly is no picnic, you could actually have seizures.

Also, there is a thing called "doctor shopping" that can get you in a lot of trouble.  It is when you obtain multiple Rx's for the same drug from more than one doctor.  It is a crime and you could be charged.

Whether or not the urgent care doc reports you to the PCP probably depends on how honest you were with him.  If you told him upfront who your doc is and that you ran out early, he may not take that route.  If you went in there seeking this drug without revealing that you already have a prescription for it, that's a different story.

I'm not trying to scare you, but these are issues not to take lightly.  With the enormous illegal prescription drug issues in this country, EVERYONE is cracking down, and law enforcement agencies are pursuing people who put up red flags.  You also don't want to be branded anywhere (pharmacies, doctors, hospitals) as a drug seeker.  That's not a good thing and could affect you actually getting medications you really need, even when everything is on the up and up.

If you have a problem, you need to seek help.  If you are just taking more to get relief from the anxiety because it is not working as well (which is common), then you need to address that with your doctor, not just take it upon yourself to take more.

Good luck, update us when you can!

You give the feeling that you do not want the prescription reported to your regular doctor. This suggests that you are willing to use more drugs than necessary for whatever condition you are being treated for. Take that as a warning bell.

All of the hospitals, urgent care's,etc. are becoming more and more 'connected' these days. There is no way to know if the doctor you saw intends to inform your pcp. That's why it's so crucial to take your meds as prescribed, as hard as it may be sometimes. I wish you the best - take care!
