You need to wean by a schedule that is appropriate to you, not some general schedule. Go as slowly as you need, and as said before, this is an important time to have only the best psychiatrist, not a hack, so sound out the one you're seeing and make sure he or she understands how to properly withdraw. A good book on this is The Antidepressant Solution by Joseph Glanville. Good luck.
Talk to your dr about weaning. If he gives you some bull about there not being a such thing as effexor withdrawal, then you need to find someone who can help you. There's a guy on this forum named Ryan. He's very very good at telling people how to properly wean. Remember if you take your time weaning... The easier it will be. So even if you need another proscription of it to help you wean, then there ya go. Good luck to you. Do yourself a favor and don't look up effexor withdrawal side effects bc they have to list them all.... And you may not even experience one withdrawal symptom. Ya never know. :)
My sister tried getting off Effexor many many times before she was successful. The reason for her was that the withdrawals were so severe, she couldn't tolerate the discomfort. She finally found a psychiatrist that guided her through a 3 month detox off the effexor, and it really took the entire 3 months. Good Luck!
