How long does it take for meds to take affect!

Recently my anti depressents and anxiety medication was interacterd and counteracted by another drug that I needed to take for whooping cough. This put my mental state of mind into a major spin causing me to wake up with horrible anxiety attacks and making my depression return with vengence.  I've stopped the whooping cough meds for 4 days now, when will my anti depressents start taking affect?  I'm sick of waking up depressed and having regular anxiety attacks during the day. Please tell me it'll kick in soon. Besides the normal coming on and coming off effects, I've never had trouble in the past with my meds and I've only been on them for 18 months.  I am depending on CBT atm for my sanity. And that's hard!

Namaste,

Since you didn't specify what medications you are taking, it's difficult to estimate the time it may take to fully take effect, But as Mr. Green stated it usually takes anywhere from 3-6 weeks for an anti-depressant to tak effect, whereas anti-anxiety medications, depending on which ones can take effect in a matter of days.

If after 4 weeks you're still not seeing any results, I'd contact my provider and let him/her know what your situation is. There is no reason for you to suffer unnecessarily.

But, be patient. I don't know how long you have suffered, but us old pros knows it may take years to find some consistent relief.

Best of luck to you.

Can take up to 3 weeks depending on the medication. Do your best to hang on in there. Far from easy at the moment for you. But once it does kick in you should be fine.
