I wouldn't take Nexium either without a diagnosis. Nexium suppresses stomach acid, so eventually your stomach will have to make more in order to digest protein and minerals. It becomes an ongoing chronic race between medication and the body's need to digest. But Nexium isn't for ulcers -- for an ulcer, they would give a potent antibiotic to kill the h. pylori. Nexium is for things such as IBS and GERD. The poster really needs a diagnosis in order to plan the next move. It could also be food allergies or intolerances or celiac or nothing at all. Just popping pills in ignorance isn't a great strategy.
There is an over the counter drug called Nexium. I'm sure there are others as well for dealing with peptic ulcers. Be sure to read the side effects.
Hope you get better.
Well, yeah, but the remedies for an ulcer are different than the remedies for other gastric problems. It's hard to believe your mother about this, though, because as you probably know, an ulcer if not treated can eventually become a bleeding ulcer, which isn't wonderful -- I had one many years ago. I thought I had one like you and saw my doctor, who said I was too young to have one and let me go. A couple years later I ended up in the emergency room with a bleeding ulcer, so there you go. You never know. That doesn't mean you have one, though, and our understanding of ulcers is different now -- it's caused by a bacteria called h pylori that is in everyone but in a person with a weakened immune system, particularly after using antibiotics, can proliferate in the gut. But you could also have a host of other gastric problems. Anyway, here's the natural treatment for ulcers, and some will also help other problems: DGL (a form of licorice you chew in tablet form before meals that removes the part of licorice that raises blood pressure in some); aloe vera juice; monukka honey; mastic gum. But using natural medicine does require some knowledge and isn't inexpensive, and is most effectively used when you have a diagnosis.
