In need of Advice plz.

For the past few months I've been getting symptoms of anxiety, but when I felt an anxiety attack it would go away within like five to ten minutes till my last one where it last me days. I even went to the er and they didn't  find anything wrong with me. But now I'm having another anxiety attack and this time I went to my private doctor and I explained tonher my situation. She prescribed me Xanax to see if my symptoms go away and to see if it's really symptoms of anxiety. But now I'm afraid to take my Xanax, I would like to know if the Xanax has worked and helped anyone with their  normal daily life and is it worth taking. I just want control of my life again.

When I first started having panic attacks and anxiety, xanex was my best friend. It would help me get through the rough patches but remember it is only a band aid and not a drug you want to get dependent on. If I were you I would take and talk with you Dr. about something long term or therapy. If it is anxiety the xanex will help and make you feel so much better!!

I just use it as needed, I first try to work through it with relaxing and breathing and then if that does not clam me down I will take one.

I just took my first Xanax, I was a little scared but I want to feel better. I really just try to do  Breathing exercises and try to keep myself busy & also trying to keep a positive mind but it's kind of hard when I feel so sick, but these past few days have been taking a toll on me. I will be making an appt to see a therapist today. Thxs for the advice, I'm glad that forums like this exist.

Xanax is generally a pretty good medication, it's pretty effective for stopping anxiety in its tracks, or in the least, reducing it to a MUCH more tolerable level.

Paxiled gave you an important warning, just be cautious with it, take it only when needed, try to stay away from taking it regularly.  And, what else are you doing to treat the anxiety?  If you haven't already, ask for a therapy referral, preferably with a therapist well versed in CBT.  Medications can help treat the symptoms of anxiety, but they don't fix the problem, which is our thinking.

Don't use it regularly -- just as needed.  Regular use will make it very hard to stop taking, so again, only when you really need it. Then find yourself a therapist who specializes in treating anxiety.

Thxs for answering my question & for the advice. I haven't taken the Xanax yet, but I'm very tempted to, since my anxiety started on Monday and it's already Thursday & it hasn't gone away & I have kids which don't make my anxiety level any easier to deal with. But I will definitely take the Xanax tomorrow. Do you know how long does it take effect?
