When it comes to anxiety, there are generally two ways to approach it: A. fight it and tell yourself to stop panicking and try to over-control it and B. accept it and work with it. The first way is known more as the "Westernized" method, while the second is the more "Easternized" method. I've talked about this with both my therapist and psychiatrist. Both ways can work, but you have to find the method that works best for YOU.
I, personally, find that the more Easternized method of dealing with anxiety works best for me. Think of this when you are feeling an anxiety spell coming on (AWARE):
A- accept the anxiety. Say to yourself "hey, anxiety, I'm welcoming you in." (crazy, I know, but it really does help)
W- watch your anxiety. Make yourself an unbiased observer. Rate your anxiety on a scale of 1-10 (1 being mild, 10 being severe).
A- act with your anxiety. Continue doing whatever it is that you are doing. Slow down if you have to, but do your best to NORMALIZE the situation and keep acting how you were before the anxiety started to kick in.
R- repeat. Keep repeating these steps until your anxiety begins to lessen.
E- expect. You know that anxiety will eventually return again, but know that when it does, you will know how to deal with it. Take comfort in that.
The goal here is that you will eventually be able to deal with anxiety as simply an unwelcomed guest. You know, that kind of annoying friend that shows up from time to time that's an inconvenience, but is something you can deal with.
Try this when you are feeling anxious! Hope this helps! Let me know how you're doing.
Namaste,
Sometimes when I become overly concerned with the level of my anxiety, I only exacerbate it.
I find that fighting to get rid of it doesn't help me, but just letting it pass through me does. Meditation helps me a lot in this regard.
I hope your issue resolves itself soon.
Michael
I've certainly experienced what you're going through many times. I guess you have to try and be honest with yourself. What are you still trying to learn about panic attacks? There's only so much information out there. I would assume that you continue to look online or on here to make yourself feel better about something. Try coming on here with the sincere purpose to share some of what you've learned with others. You'll find that you already know enough to help yourself and all you need to do is implement.
Or - avoid the internet and get a hobby. When was going through my bad stages video games saved me. They completely took my mind off of my concerns and I was miraculously cured!
