Am I Bipolar?

by jordie900, Sep 13, 2009 08:59PM
I am a 17 year old female and when I was about two years old I was diagnosed with epilepsy. I haven't had a seizure in eight years now, but I've heard that this disease could cause other problems like Bipolarity and I was curious as to if I had it...my symtoms are

Mood swings (frequent about three to four times a week)
Feeling more than one emotion at a time such as (joy, sorrow, rage, anxiety, fear) on occation all at once
I usually find myself extreamly depressed for no paticular reason (mostly during colder months)
I have been severely delutional three times (i have shaken myself from it but i fear it happening again)
I find myself on occation in an unexpressable random rage
Rarely but it has happened before that I find myself in panic or hyteria for no reason
This may not have an input but I am closterphobic and have panic attacks when being touched by too many people at once....

I'm a little messed up, but can someone please help me?

Only doctors can really diagnose people, while some of the things you've mentioned could point at bipolar disorder they could also point to other mental illnesses. I've never actually heard of epilepsy causing bipolar disorder, but I had epilepsy and ended up becoming bipolar so who knows.
While mood swings aren't uncommon for your age, the other symptoms combined with that should certainly push you to seeing a doctor. If it is something like bipolar, the earlier you find out the better you'll be able to treat it.

Hard to say as some of the medications that treat epilepsy actually treat bipolar as well. Ask your neurologist to make sure what you describe is not related to the epilepsy and if it isn't they could refer you to a psychiatrist as needed and they could decide what to do from there. Like epilepsy bipolar is very treatable.

If i may ask what kind of meds do you take? Do some research in forums and you may find out your meds have got you feeling this way.
