Finding the perfect pill

I been diagnos with bipolar(severe manic depression) years ago and have been on numerous meds but what I want to know is what is the best medication that stops the racing thoughts because it is really bothersome. I also am easily agitated by anything and everything thing and no I'm not suicidal but I really am getting drained from the whole experience is there one medication for all my problems I know it's hard to say since you dont have my history in front of you but I'm tired because right now I'm on prozac, topomax ,xanax, trazadone and I was just given a prescription for seroquel. I really feel like I'm losing what little control I did have please tell me there is one medications that can do what all the others are doing

No perfect pills. It is always a choice what is worse - the bipolar symptom or the side effect from the drug. For example I take Zeldox (geodone in the US). It causes agitation but keeps the crazy thoughts away. So for me the agitation is worth it. And it is better compared to all the other Atypicals I've tried.

You may want to ask about the topomax. My GP prescribed it and my psychiatrist made me go off of it because he said it was a very poor mood stabilizer. I take lamotrigine and it works way better than topomax ever did. Topomax killed my cognitive abilities.

The med dance is a tough one. It took me a long time to get stable. I now take lamotrigine, Zeldox, and trazodone. It works well for me.

Yes i feel like that a lot..that I don't know what my problem is..why can't I just be calm/happy or relax? I watch others and constantly wonder how they do it..I hope the meds help you, I don't think there is a perfect pill, I've never found one but they definitely help.

Thank you for your input. I dont know exactly what my problem is Im easily agitated always having racing thoughts depressed most of the time just ****** up anyway you look at it and I was asked is there any thing that makes me feel good and my reply was drinking and of course you know thats out of the question besides that sitting on or near the beach but I dont even have any income so the only thing I can do is stay in my room I could go down Penns Landing but I dont like being around crowds so for now I just waiting for the med to kick in so I can get back out into society again.

Hi I clicked by forum lol don't know what I'm supposed to do. I am taking Seroquel XR for the thoughts, anger and agitation..it does work for me but I've had my dose increased to 400mh and I am putting weight on now.. I have been on it 9 months and not put much on up to that. I also take depakote as a stabiliser but I'm still having lots of mixed symptoms.

I don't know - maybe list several of the main prescriptions for bipolar.  There's a bunch!

I'm curious - some of yours aren't typical bipolar meds.  For example, prozac, which is an AD.  I would LOVE to have an AD, but my pdoc won't allow it because they can cause mania.

Maybe you should post a question of what type of drugs people take and their experiences.

I hope you get the answers you are looking for.  I know it's hard when you feel like to want the right meds and don't know where to start looking, etc.

LAMICTAL.   I take Risperdal for the racing thoughts and it helps.  I didn't know how to vote because it only shows up "by forum" or "medical opinions", but that's what I take.
