The doctor gave me a prescripton for Sennakot stool softener and lax but it hadnt helped. They told me no pushing and straining but Idk what to do. Im desperate for help because I am nkt constipated. The bowel movement is jus right on edge but I cant push it out :( Please if you have experienced this please share your advice.i am desperate and in pain nt only in my head but stomach area too :( Once again I apologize for the nature of this post. Thanks in advance for your help!

I also had this trouble after surgery. So my NS suggested an inema, they work great for this. Just make sure to lay flat after reciveing for a little bit and let it work, also you may want to get some milk of magnesia to keep on hand for a while to help keep you regular. As your doc said, it's important for you not to strain. You dont want to take a chance of anything creating more pressure for you. Oh and if you like yogurt, get some of that as well, Activia works pretty good and it tastes good.
Good luck! ANd I hope you have a good recovery process.

Hi this is a typical issue post op...and if the stool softeners do not work u can try magnesium or magnesium citrate  it is a liquid and in a few flavors, Cherry , Orange and I think Lemon.....drink a little at a time as it can cause a major blow out(sorry) as I was given this for a colonoscopy....this is b4 u try an enema  ,.,,,,not a fun process and u will need someone to administer it for u and bending to do it, u may pass out....lol...

A Probiotic may also be of help to get ur digestive track balanced after surgery and the stool softeners...etc...

BTW- I also had a walker, and my Drs send everyone home with them....

I totally understand as I have IBS all my life and have had to resort to taking magnesium daily in order to not have issues, and I still have issues from time to time....so I know a few ways that work for me.

The Cherry  magnesium citrate is not as bad as the others...I keep a bottle in my fridge, and it is better cold too : )

I'm 7 months post op and still on my bowel regime as I'm still on meds.  Before I was d/c'd from the hospital, I needed an enigma to get things going again.  Anesthesia does "a number" on the digestive processes!!

LOL thanks everyone. I ended up having to go to the dr because I was so "packed". He also told me to take several doses of Miralax at once. That def worked too but inconveniently when it wants to. SMH
