Dr. Di

Just wanted to update you all on Dr. Di. He recently sent out an update on his facebook site as it pertains to where he is. Currently he is facing his own medical issues. He didn't specify as to what but only he would need a couple more months to recover and he is antsy to start helping treat us all again. He will be practicing in Kansas City somewhere.

For those of you looking for a great Chiari Doctor I would hold out for him if you can. I recently saw Dr. Di in July of 2010 he left surgery up to me and although I cancelled the surgery when I do determine to finally do it I will go to him no matter what. And I live in Seattle so he see how committed I am. His demeanor is second to none and his intellectual approach to CM is off the charts. Recovery time for his procedure is 2-4 weeks not 8-12 and complication rate is less than any other Surgeon from what I have heard. It is true some more extreme chiari cases might not be good for his minimally invasive technique but for most of us, it's effective.

Anyways just wanted to drop a line, say hi to everybody and give an update for those of you who were wondering!

Thanks

DAWGS

I just want to add, Dr. Di had a problem with his own eye and that's why he stopped practicing for awhile. His patients were really upset that he left so abruptly, but I think we need to keep in mind that these doctors are people too and sometimes have their own medical issues to deal with.

I was a patient of Dr. Di's, and I am now seeing his colleague, Dr. Luciano. He ALSO does the decompression endoscopically, like Dr. Di does! I am having it done in May/June with Luciano at the Cleveland Clinic. Although I like Dr. Di, I can't follow him to another state due to insurance restrictions. However, Dr. Luciano's surgery is almost the same - in fact Luciano hired Dr. Di. I had heard some mixed things about Luciano, but he's very nice and I feel that I'm in good hands with him.

Thanks for asking how I am...to be honest I was great - you know the occasional symptom here and there. and then just thursday again BAM - head pressure like crazy. Didn't have much of a headache for months and then BAM! I HATE chiari!

I am just not sure how to proceed. It seems my symptoms come and go and have done so for over 12 years. Not sure if I should just live with it or seek surgery. Dr. Di offered to give me the surgery but Dr. ellenbogen here at UW said he wouldn't touch me yet. I think since Di is less invasive perhaps he is willing to take on what Doc's define as "moderate" patients. I hate that term :)

Anyways how are you? Any input you have for me

Thanks

I just wanted to mention that it was me who posted Dr. Di's note on the fan page on FB.  Dr. Di himself has not mentioned where he will be.  It was not mentioned in his note.  So far as I'm aware, this is still heresy.  We will all find out soon.  In the meantime, please just keep him in your prayers, as we all know how troublesome medical issues can be.

Thanks, Dawgs!  (p.s.  Hi, Selma!  I hope you're both doing well!)
