1st Apt. with Neurosurgeon

Had my first apt. with Neurosurgeon and he was horrible!!  I had a feeling and didn't even want to go..I already have an apt. set up with Dr. Heilman from Tufts in Boston who is suppose to be very good.

It was so rushed, I felt like I was in the way of him getting to happy hour...TGIF! lol  He told me I could have the decompression surgery or not, it might get get better with it, it might not, it might get worse without it, it might not, I may get the cyst, I might not.

I told him about the Vertigo which is how I was diagnosed, and the dizziness and he said that I probably had an ear or sinus infection????  HUH?

I told him that I take Fiorocet for Migraines and did he think there was a better one for me, and I got, I'm a surgeon, I don't handle medications.

Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

Anyone else have to see a **** for a surgeon??

I am still so shocked at the lack of empathy NL have, it's incredible really. So sorry you've had to go through that experience, By the looks of things this is quite normal occurrence for alot of people with CM.

Lucky for me...the first and only NS I saw was amazing!! That is what I tell ppl...if they don't come in and give you the feeling like they have a lot of time to talk to you...then you probably aren't going to get anywhere with them. My NS came in sat down and gave me his full attention for nearly an hour...this was also after my NL had already told him that he thought it was all in my head!!

So if this poll was on NL's...that is a totally different matter...

I was really, really luck b/c my NS felt like it was my last hope..

I actually saw three NS before deciding to do the surgery. I had a similar experience w/ the first one I saw as you did. He told me I could have it if I wanted to but I didn't NEED it. He said my symptoms might get better but they might not. He said I may just end up trading one type of headache for another type. He was very wishy-washy about the whole thing. Keep looking you'll find someone who is a good match for you. Don't give up!

Good luck, Stephanie :)

My NS was very nice and answered my questions but said that my Chiari wasn't a big deal and that I would be let down by the surgery. He then went on to tell me "you'll just have to live with it."

I've yet to talk to another NS but I really want to talk to a few really good ones I've heard about on here.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Unless u are very lucky to have ur first NS be a true chiari specialist it is more likely to be disappointed.

The first one I saw said I did not have chiari...the 2nd one said I did, but could not help.....

There is no way for u to delete it, but if u report it correctly,. I can have the wrong one deleted.

: )
