Just an update on the pseudo

For anyone that has chatted with me in the past two years, you know I have had five surgeries and two pseudos.  Today was my MRI to see if it was closed and it was not.  It is smaller so that could be good news but I am feeling pretty sad that it is still not closing.  I am so sick of surgeries and medical bills and now the pain from the shunt.  six to eight weeks from now I will have my next MRI to see if it closes and that just seems a long way away.

I am praying that the shunt will come out!  What new meds are you on?  I have a question...you have low pressure headaches.  The NL said high pressure with my daughter's  large pseudo (headache and nausea in morning).  Does that mean no leak but fluid is causing pressure?  Diamox and Topamax have stopped headaches and nausea and she sleeps on a wedge that keeps her head elevated.  Her swelling has gone down considerably.  Wondering if meds help dura to heal.  We are scheduled for MRI in December so I understand how difficult the waiting is!

Thanks so much to everyone.  Yesterday really made me sad and to get up today and look for a better out look and to find all these nice comments it has just made my morning.  I cried a lot yesterday, I really thought maybe it was closed.  I know I still have some issues but less than I had so I just hoped it was closed.  I have the disk here and maybe by next week I will figure out how to post a pic again :)  I did have issues with the pseudo which is why they tried to close it, it was creating the same Chiari symptoms I had early on before surgery because of the pressure it creates where it is.  The shunt has lowered the pressure so it is a bit smaller but the shunt is terrible for me so unless we get the leak closed, I can't get the shunt out.  My body HATES this shunt, it feels like knives in my abdomen.  I guess some people don't tolerate them well and I am one of them.  They can do the head surgery again but I dread that surgery.  I think in September if it is not closed we will go ahead with the brain surgery and he will keep me in the hospital to watch for fluid build up like I got after surgery two.  He is worried I will have permanent neurological issues if that happens again.  I guess I just cross my fingers that the next two months go by fast and that somehow it closes.  Really appreciate the kind words!!!  He gave me a new med to try to deal with the low pressure headaches from the shunt, hopefully that will help a little.  I will try and post the new pseudo pic soon :)

I didn't realize that you have had 5 surgeries.  I thought 4 was bad.  I am not famaliar with a pseudo, but having it show it is smaller on the MRI does give you hope.  I will be having you in my added prayers for better healing tomorrow.  It will get better.

So sorry to hear the pseudo isn't closed!  Do you mean it's still there but smaller, or that you have a leak?  I was told a pseudo may never completely go away, and that's ok as long as it wasn't large and causing problems.  Hang in there!  JoAnne

I am sorry to hear that it hasn't closed yet. I haven't suffered with this psuedo for as long as you have, and I have to commend you for your strength to come so far!  I could only imagine how badly you are ready to put this behind you,  but progress is progress so it's getting better! I hope you don't get discouraged and you continue to heal! Best wishes!!!
