Two steps forward and three steps back!

As many of you know I had surgery 3 weeks ago and seemed to be doing great the first week after surgery. In the past when I get sunburned or stressed I often times will get a type of herpes on my left ear. Well, I guess the stress from surgery caused it to reappear and my NS sent me to an ear specialist because the herpes/shingles were in my ear canal. Luckily, it did not reach into my ear drum which could cause facial paralysis among other issues. So now, I'm taking valtrex plus my muscle relaxers to help with my spasms. That's another issue, I feel great and I'm not in pain but the muscle spasms in my legs, arms and feet are driving me crazy. Often times, I get sensations in my face. I have read where all of this may be a part of the healing process but it's hard to show patience. Sorry for venting....

Oh wow, I didn't know that shingles causes muscle spasms! I had shingles on my arm last year after I was diagnosed with FM. What lead them to finding it in your ear canal (that's amazing). The Valtrex and whatever else should take care of it within a week or 2 but I don't know that  there's much you can do about the muscle spasms. I know this sounds a bit "out there" but stimulus such as sounds around the house/neighbors, just random things triggering your brain to react are small forms of stress, so if you can minimize that, it will help out tremendously. I used to drive off and park my car at a state park where there was noooo one else around and watch tv epidsodes on my laptop or just recline in silence. I hope you feel better soon <3

Rant all u need to that will help reduce ur stress..holding it in only intensifies it.

We all understand....trust me...we do : )

Ask ur Dr about magnesium and Vit D supplements as that can help with the spasms especially if u have low levels.

Just rest, and u do have to learn patience with this....
