I hope you can get the opportunity to speak with the professionals involved in your care (radiologist, chiari specializing NS). One of my biggest concerns after my decision to have the surgery was about the care of my child during my hospital stay. Do you also have concerns about your responsibilities?
Hi....as they mentioned above, it is always going to be your decision to have this surgery unless you are in a critical situation....then the Drs will decide....most times, we make the decision based on what our NS shares with us, if they feel surgery is a good option, and the % rate of benefits, as well as how they feel it is affecting us and our overall health.....
Not all NS's are experienced enuff to do this surgery, so make sure you have a true Chiari specialist...this Drs entire focus is Chiari and Chiari related conditions.
Make sure ALL related conditions are ruled out B4 you schedule surgery as they can affect how you feel and heal post op.
Once you do schedule surgery, post it on the Prayer thread....
Hi One can understand your fears very well.any surgery is fearsome .,even more so when it involves brain ,spine or other vital organs .This fear is common for all those who have surgery So it is absolutely normal.
none can force anyone who is legally able to take decisions on their own.,
Other than in emergencies ,or accidents etc., you yourself have to decide regarding any surgery based on the diagnostic tests, feedback from dr and your own research /and your current health , .
,You need to assess with the dr and also consult with the family as to if there is any serious threat if not operated,/ when it should be operated( is it immediately or when needed)./If the future quality of life.would be better after surgery/,complications that are likely/,how the drs would handle them/ , insurance is available or finance to be arranged / handling the recovery (who is taking care of home /at hospital etc.)stay in the hospital/etc etc etc. In short you need to think a lot responsibly .
You and the dr need to be fully convinced that you would be benefitted by having surgery.,and you and also your family should know the exact surgical procedure (atleast as a layman.)
You need to have full trust on the dr and his/her team.
Please dont venture into any surgery having doubts. Please get all the doubts cleared to the maximum possible and also do have a check for other co existing conditions like selmaS often says.
If you are doubtful about the abnormality of your CINE mri you may consult the radiologist who took the mri and the nsg or other drs who ordered it as to what makes you feel so.
.As you would be aware as patient that it is very important to make an informed whole hearted decision .
sorry if i went overboard .I did not mean to stuff advices., But wanted to make you alert.
Best of Luck.
The cine mri is abnormal, but the decision is always up to you. No matter if it's a cancer lump removal or chiari malformation. As long as you are conscious and able to make decisions no one will force you to go on the surgery table.
