33 month old not talking

My son is 33 months old.  He is happy, healthy & has a huge imagination!  My only concern is his speech.  He has been in speech therapy for 7 months now.  He babbles a lot but does not say any words unless we ask him--for instance if I ask him Yes or No  he says "yes or no"  I know in speech therapy that is what we wanted him to do at first, we would ask him to say yellow & he would say it & we would celebrate.  Now we want him to say it on his own. We thought it could be autism but he has no other signs of it, he has great eye contact, loves playing with other kids & is developmentally on track other than this.  Does anyone have any tips or been through something similar to this?  We did just enroll him in daycare about 3 weeks ago hoping it would help and it has some but he's still not trying to speak on his own.  I'm  just not sure what to do from here... He is capable of saying many words if I ask him to.

Be patient . You can't expect three weeks in the program to be yielding changes. It sounds like he has a developmental delay in th sole area of speec/language. There is every reason to think he will make gains. Keep up the therapy and the program. Be sure to read to him at home, and point to pictures and ask him what the pictures are.
