Childhood Immunizations and Premature Baby

by Lh, Sep 08, 2000 12:00AM
I know this is not a behavioral problem- I am searching for information on a new vaccine.  It is for pheumonia causing bacteria and I have been unable to find ANY info on it.  I though someone could help me in this FORUM.  I apoligize if it is not applicable to the topic, but I am desperate.  My pedi wants him to have this shot in three weeks and it is supposedly brand new just out this summer.  I have mised feeling about vaccinations that are new- I need info!  He has some medical problems- 9 weeks early and already developmental things going on, so I don't want to hinder progress any further.  If you can help by referring me somewhere, I would greatly appreciate it!  Thanks so much.

Dear LH,

Do you have the name of the vaccine? Generally, immunization against the 20+ diseases of the lungs, blood or covering of the brain caused by pneumococcal bacteria is achieved via the Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine (PPV. Is this the vaccine your doctor is referring to? If so, employ an internet search and you'll find plenty of information on it. But perhaps he's referring to something else.
