Migraine in a nine year old

Hi, For the past two months, my nine year old daughter has been experiencing migraine headaches. When I was nine, I was treated by a neurologist who is no longer around. He put me on fiorinal w/ codeine and phenergran when I had a migraine and then inderal I took everyday. Times have changed since then and I was wondering if it's safe to put her on these meds.

I assume you are going to have her evaluated by her PCP and then perhaps by a pediatric neurologist. Preventive and abortive drugs used with adults (and some of them with adolescents) are not approved for use with children. Symptoms often associated with migraines, such as photophobia, nausea and vomiting, can be treated. Often pediatric migraines are tretaed with OTC analgesics. But always consult with your child's doctor, and never give medications you might have on hand for treating your own heasaches.
