The corpus callosum is a large bundle of nerve fibers (more than two million) which joins the left and right hemispheres of the brain. The corpus callosum allows the two main parts of the brain to communicate with each other and to 'learn' from each other, so to speak. Many aspects of coordinated physical movement, for example, that we tend to take for granted, are not possible without the corpus callosum. The corpus callosum permits transfer of learning from one hemisphere to the other.
