hi.iam a 40 year old male whose had a productive coughCough
Pertussis (mornings ) for 2 years now. iam an x-smoker 25 years/20 a day. my lungArds (acute respiratory distress syndrome)
Bronchoscopy with transbronchial biopsy
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Coal worker's lungs - chest x-ray

Collapsed lung, pneumothorax
Diaphragm and lungs

Lung anatomy
Lung biopsy function showed siginificant reduction but are now normal. i take seritide and nazonex daily. my dr doesn't think i have copdChronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Your problem could be residual chronic bronchitis, after 25 pack-years of smoking cigarettes.  But, your doctor is probably right in suggesting that you don't have airway obstruction.  It could also be that the mucus is originating, not in your lungs, but in your nose and sinuses; resulting in drainage down the back of your throat called postnasal drip.  You could still be having gastroesophageal reflux that can cause a productive cough, if the reflux medication is not controlling the reflux.
