GOP offers own proposal to avert 'fiscal cliff'

http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/03/15649000-gop-offers-own-proposal-to-avert-fiscal-cliff?lite

A snippet from the article:

"As Republicans put it, they would raise $800 billion in new revenue through tax reform, $600 billion in health savings, $200 billion from changes to the Consumer Price Index, $300 billion in discretionary spending cuts, and another $300 billion in savings in mandatory spending. Many of the health savings track closely with the changes to Medicare first proposed in Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan’s budgets.

Republicans say the plan, using the Obama administration’s math, would achieve $4.6 trillion in savings.

It’s unclear, though, whether the Republican plan would move toward ending the stalemate around the fiscal cliff negotiations, with less than a month remaining until the automatic tax hikes and spending cuts are scheduled to snap into place on Jan. 1."

"And I see many players in this hoplessness that I have with Obama being just one of them.  Several Republicans are contributing as well."

I wouldn't say hopelessness but this statement I do 98% agree with..:) Enjoy your coffee....

No one has any issue with you guys supporting him.

Everyone has their own belief system, and obviously, chose to vote like they did for their own reasons.  I don't care that you support Obama...what DOES bother me is that it seems impossible for you (general "you") to admit that he's not blameless in this situation...both getting us to where we are today (along WITH the past administrations)...as well as, not being willing to do much compromising to fix the situation at hand.

What we're dealing with right now, Obama is partially responsible for.  It's now been almost 5 years since Bush was in office.  At what point does it STOP being his fault?  We're into Obama's second term...and yet everything is still Bush's fault?  That's being biased to the point where it's irrational.

I LOVED Bush...but at the same time, I have no problem admitting he made some mistakes.  Some big ones, too.  But, it is absolutely absurd to say that 5 years later, the state we're in now is still ALL his fault.  If Obama was cleaning up Bush's mess when he proceeded Bush, whose mess is he cleaning up now?  If you use the same rules (which I'm sure you won't)...it would be his OWN. Obama chose to extend those tax cuts...not Bush.

Obama DOES get a lot of passes, whether you agree with that or not......everything either gets blamed on Bush or the GOP.  The GOP is going to take the heat if we go over the cliff, and that's a shame.  BOTH sides are being equally unreasonable.  And, I don't want to hear that Obama shouldn't cave because he won the election.  My goodness, we know!!!  That doesn't excuse him from being unreasonable and unwilling to discuss a middle ground, any more than it excuses the GOP for the same things.

Remarks about obama are as old as remarks about the gop.  It works both ways.  I feel discouraged right now and disappointed.  I'm sorry for taking it out here and letting my thoughts fly.  Feeling rather hopeless about the future which is not really my nature and doesn't sit well with me.  And I see many players in this hoplessness that I have with Obama being just one of them.  Several Republicans are contributing as well.

I'll get some coffee and try to be more novel in my comments.

It does make me laugh as it is right on time.  Never would anything be attributed to obama.  What is that quote "we must defend the current administration at all costs".

Obama's record with our economy was his sticking point in the election.  That and Libya (also I'm sure just a GOP made up thing and Bush's fault).

I'm sure it will be right on cue . . .  BUSH did it all.  Republicans are bad.

OMG!! I thought this thread was about the GOP and THEIR COUNTEROFFER..Why isn't anyone discussing that? Maybe because it IS lackluster with NO substance and the GOP knows this is a battle they are NOT going to win (just like the election..)....We know already those of you on the right don't like Obama and his policies...Well 47% (I know some of you like to think 49%) but 47% DID NOT get Romney elected...Those ARE the numbers..Look it up.NOWHERE will you find 48% (almost half).

Whether you accept it or not, OBAMA DID NOT GET US INTO THIS MESS... He IS getting us OUT of this mess..and he's doing a good job even without the cooperation of the republican congress and without being liked by  the 47% that did not vote for him....
