Side effects of Remeron

Side effects of Remeron

For depression I was prescribed Remeron several weeks ago and simultaneously told to lesson my Effexor and Wellbutrin to 150mg & 75mg daily, respectively.  After about a week I noticed my appetite had increased and I gained about 8 pounds (age 59). In addition my feet and ankles swelled. Since my research on the Internet showed that these were side effects of Remeron I stopped taking it (and notified my doctor as such).  I am now dieting to lose the weight but the ankles and feet continue to swell up and down.

Question-1: Since the ankles and feet continue to swell after being off the Remeron for a week and a half, can I assume the Remeron was not the cause?

Question-2: If Remeron was not the cause, should I have a blood test to see if there is a white-cell increase indicating something else is going on?

Thank you.

Usually ankle swelling means you are retaining fluids, and there are several causes for that.  It is worth  finding out about that just to make sure.  Also, a rapid weight gain is usually fluid retention.  Its a good reason to have a check up.
