by veronica_1980, Jul 23, 2009 07:48PM
I have scratched my arms so badly that i they are white, i think i scratched some pigments off. Well i was wondering if this is eczema? And if so is there any kind of product that i can buy at a health store because i wake up in the middle of the night scratching my arms and i look terrible. I want this to end this is the 2nd time that it has happened to me in 3  years the first year was in 2007 and in 2008 nothing happened and now its back. Please i need some kind of answers.

Hello,
This itching of arms can be due to eczema, dry skin, fungal infections, contact dermatitis or brachioradial pruritis. internal diseases like liver and kidney disorders, diabetes, iron deficiency anemia, irritation and allergic reactions to chemicals, wool, soaps, cosmetics and certain foods .

You can apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area. Oral antihistamine, such as Benadryl can also be used. You should take a comfortably cool bath and wear smooth-textured cotton clothing. You should choose mild soaps without dyes or perfumes and use a mild, unscented laundry detergent when washing clothes, towels and bedding.

Pls take a second opinion from a dermatologist if the symptoms persist. He/She will start with the specific medications. If an internal disease is found, whether it's kidney disease, iron deficiency or a thyroid problem, treating that disease often relieves the itch.Lastly,Phototherapy can also be tried.
Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
