noticeable chicken pox scars - What treatment is best?

noticeable chicken pox scars - What treatment is best?

I had chicken pox at age 12 and I'm now 27.  I have about 3 very notiveable scars, two on my forehead and one on my cheek.  They are indented and are noticeable in photos and in sunlight.  I also have some less noticeable scars.  I would like to get them smoothed out but I'm not sure what procedure is better.  I did see a dermatologist who recommended laser treatments but I wasn't convinced.  Then I saw a plastic surgeon who recommended dermabrasion.  I wanted the dermabrasion but I was scared to go through with it because it was going to be around $2000 or so...  If anyone has any information, it would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Hello,
The lesion that you have described sounds like a scar with post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The treatment for post inflammatory hyperpigmentation includes various skin creams, laser treatment, Chemical peeling or microdermabrasion. As the scars have been present for a long time now,so in my opinion getting a microdermabrasion or laser treatment will be the best. Avoid picking, harsh scrubbing, and abrasive treatments unless prescribed by a dermatologist during this period.

Kind regards. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.
