. The rash was red, sore, and itchy, but was also a mass of small yellow head pimples. These faded after about a week, I bought anti bacterial cream from a local French chemist (I was holidaying in France the second time) and this did seem to soothe the soreness and calm it all down.
The first attack was a few months ago and although it went away I noticed there was still some residue remaining that would pop up now and again, but was hardly noticable. But when its a fullblown attack its horrible.
Why is it happening, and what can I do to stop it reacurring, and how best to treat it ?
This may be a case of acne or folliculitis. An infected dermatitic skin infection may also be present here which may explain the yellowish bumps on the skin. A photosensitivity reaction may be a differential here given that you have a history of sun exposure associated with this. Chemical photosensitivity may result from sun exposure after application of sunscreen cream or lotion on the face. Solar urticaria may present as welts or hives on the skin immediately after sun exposure but would resolve spontaneously. This condition is also quite rare.
I would advise that you refrain from prolonged exposure to the sun .Use protective clothing, wide brimmed hats to avoid direct contact with the heat and UV radiation. Generously apply sun block over the face also .Use the mild and hypoallergenic ones with an SPF of at least 30.
Rosacea which is an inflammatory skin condition triggered by weather, heat, smoke or even intense emotions may also need to be ruled out.
