Ear problems

Does anyone have any advice on how to help prevent chronic yeast infections in dogs ears? My dog is just having so much trouble with her ears. They are very itchy and she scratches them so much that they get very irritated. We took her to the vet and they gave us meds for her, but it doesn't seem like it is helping very much. Thank for any advice

Get another dog.  LOL!  Seriously though, our old dog Chica loved to groom her pack mates - particularly in the ears.  I swear, that dog would roll her tongue into a tube and just ream away at the other dogs, who seemed to enjoy it.  Before she came along, we had the same trouble with dirty ears that would develop into a yeast infection.  Now that she's gone, we have to keep up with weekly ear inspections and gentle cleaning with a Q-tip.

If you are getting meds from the vet that aren't working, you may want to ask if it's truly a yeast infection or possibly something else.  Also, there are a variety of meds for this condition, so you may want to try something else.  Tresaderm is one I can think of that we've used in the past, and it seemed to do the job just fine.
