Bad sore throat for six days

Bad sore throat for six days

Four days before Christmas, I was at a resort and drank a lot of caffeinated drinks (mostly tea, but a Coke as well) in about an 8 hour period.  To add to it, I also had a huge dinner.  I burped once, and I felt acid in the back of my throat.  Since that moment, I have had a bad sore throat, with the pain centered around my right tonsil.  When I swallow, I also feel a twinge in my right ear.  Even though I don't feel any bloating or heartburn, I have a slight burning in my throat.  I thought that I might have burned the back of my throat when I burped, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of it (ie. sores).
I've had a history of reflux an heartburn in the past, but this is the first time that I've had a severe sore throat.  I've been taking Gaviscon and Zantac at alternating times, and been gargling with salt and water, but there has been little, if any, change.  Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi,
The symptoms you have mentioned could be either due to sore throat or acid reflux.
If it is due to acid reflux, medications like prilosec would be provide relief.
If it is due to sore throat, tylenol and salt water gargling would help.
