Oxycodone stopping burning stomach?

Oxycodone stopping burning stomach?

I have wondered this for the longest time, ever since I developed burning in my stomach two years ago.

Every test that has been performed thus far on me has shown that I have chronic gastritis (though not serious) and reflux. I eat no trigger foods whatsoever, I have one of the healthiest diets around. I'm only 20 years old, just 118 pounds. Despite everything, for three years I've not been able to lie down during the day due to burning in my stomach and esophagus.

Except, that is, when I take pain medicine. Oxycodone, morphine or dilaudid, and I can LIE DOWN. And not sleep, I'm not knocked out, I'm awake. I have oxycodone prescribed to me for very painful menstrual periods, so I take about 2-3 pills a month.

Why does the burning stop with the pain medicine? My GI doctor at the Cleveland Clinic believes that there's a connection problem between my stomach and brain. He thinks there's physically nothing wrong with my stomach. He says this "body thrown out of balance" could have been caused by two surgeries I had.

I read all over about pain medications causing heartburn... but why does it take mine away? Can anyone provide some light on this issue?

Be careful... powerful pain meeds could just block the gastritis and reflux symptoms.

The problem with opiate painkillers is that they slow down the digestive system, which can lead to slow stomach emptying.  Opiates almost always cause constipation, which can also worsen gastritis and reflux.
